I too had heard great reports about this place - many giving the caveat "However, it's not cheap mind you".
Well, I am now a wiser man.
It certainly isn't cheap, and it certainly isn't great.
The welcome was nice and friendly, but there again, what would you expect, upon entering they beat you over the head with a stool?
After taking a brief look at the menu, I knew I was in a Chinese restaurant like no other I'd been in, seeing mains of £11 I was eyeing the exit, but there was a waiter there with a stool waiting.
Prawn crackers came and tasted as stale as my insoles.
We ordered chicken and sweetcorn soup, it was fine - I've never ate soup out of egg cups before though.
The spare ribs came, there were four of us and there were five of them - they were dry - and there was five of them - they were not very meaty - and there was five of them.
The shredded duck was good. It should be for the price mind, my new extension cost less much as that.
Between four of us we ordered two mains, ordering four would have meant selling a kidney, actually maybe the chef might have wanted it, as the beef dish we got could have done with a bit of extra meat.
The Singapore chow mein was ok, but there again I've never been to Singapore, but I have been to The Sunningdale Chop Suey House in Egglescliffe and there's is billion times better.
Speaking of a billion, China has a bit over that as a population, and yet in this Chinese restaurant, there was not one person who could speak it.
Note to others, do not ask the pretty waitress where in China she is from, as she is from the Philippines and I'm not sure she appreciated the lazy assumption.
I can't remember if we had desert, as by then I had commandeered the second bottle of (very good) house red wine the four of us had ordered and I was merrily asking the waitress if the reason she was so slim was because she ate here often.
An average Chinese meal for four for £130 - you tell me? Clever people those Chinese.
