Well, probably my only steak dinner in the North East, but it was great.
Myself and Mrs Epicurist rang on a Friday mid-afternoon on the hope of getting a table for the evening. We were in luck, but had to accept a slightly earlier time than originally hoped for. This was fine and grateful to have a space at such a well known restaurant on a busy night at short notice.
The black pudding and bacon starter was top drawer, packed with flavour. My choice of a 10oz Rib Eye Steak was sensational. Two courses and drinks for two people weighed in at £45 - pretty good value.
Try to get a table in the main part of the pub as it looked really cosy. We were relegated to the pleasant, but plain, extension where it was a bit chilly and lacking in character.
Service was quick (we were done and out in 50 mins).
