We ate at this restaurant a few years ago and, based on pleasant memories, decided to revisit. We wish we hadn't. What a change. Quite frankly, if it were not for the superb location, this restaurant would not last five minutes. The service was poor and amateurish with no evidence of supervision or training. Bar staff did not know their drinks, serving a tonic water without ice or lemon and a tomato juice without offered seasoning. I was asked if I would like a pint of tomato juice! We had to carry our own drinks from the bar when we were collected for the meal. The fois gras starter was dry and tired and any flavour masked by being smothered with sea salt. My wife's soup was lukewarm. We both had lamb as a main course which was unexceptional. The accompanying vegetable mixture was a strange variety of tastes and, when our order was taken, the waitress couldn't say what vegetables they were. We asked for ice cream for dessert and got three scoops dumped in a bowl with no attempt to decorate or provide a wafer biscuit. We waited 20 minutes for our coffee and were told there was a queue for the machine. Since my espresso was tepid the wait must have been down to the coffee standing around. Unusually, I declined to pay the "discretionary" service charge of 10% which would have taken the total bill (with two glasses of poor Merlot) to £100. The staff were apologetic but you can't blame them. The whole restaurant displayed a total lack of standards and that is down to management and training.
