“not a great place”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2013

We went on the first weekend of the summer holidays and the takeaway (reason I booked it) was shut the whole 3nights, when asked what the reason was,..."well there is one about 10mins away". We had to move pitch because we couldn't stand the smell of dog poo any more, on site pub is a little room and a long walk to the wash rooms (from keyhole field), next to no fish in the so called fishing lake, never seen anyone come around to tidy or clean up, the shop is a joke, no bread, milk, papers, we had more in the van than they had in the shop. And in the night was a power cut and freezer stuff melted. Pool was small and in need of a clean. Toliet blokes were clean and often seen a cleaner in there (the only plus)

Room Tip: Don't get put in keyhole...

Me and my partner arrived on the thursday 8th of august and stayed till the Saturday and when we got there we were welcomed by some really lovely staff at reception, We got told where we were allowed to camp and we picked this little pitch with not many tents so it was peaceful. the swimming pool could have been heated properly as the water was freezing, the shower blocks were lovely except from in the girls toilets up by the bar the hairdryers didnt work! the shop had the basics but was very low stocked. the bar was lovely and there was some great entertainment the games room was good and had some really good games in it and the bar staff were really helpful to. I would definatley go back there again its great.

Room Tip: well its a campsite so you eithewr take a tent, motorhome or caravan but apart from that the place i...

Arrived at noon on a thursday to find teens being thrown off the site for bad behaviour and destruction of property so the alarm bell started ringing straight away! We were alocated a pitch by the polite young man in reception to find it had already been taken by a large tent, so I went back to the reception to be alocated to another pitch which was okay. The pitches are very uneven with very little grass but plenty of sand and pitch space is limited. The whole campsite needs money spent on it to bring it up to standard. The owners allow more than four cars for one pitch which is unnacceptable. We decided to go out for the day- when we came back in the evening, there was five tents plus one caravan for one family with six cars parked all over. One of the cars was parked on our pitch approx 12 inches away from my caravan, we couldn't walk alongside it they were that close. So disrespectful. However, if you were a former guest of The Jeremy Kyle Show, you would feel well at home. If you have saved up alot of money to come to this site in August, you have to question why they have vacancies at the peek time. I suggest you save up money and go somewhere else in the area. I would not recommend this campsite to young families.

We had a friendly and enjoyable weekend here BUT!!! The pool needs to be cleaned and swept regularly I enjoyed the pool as it was so hot but didn't dare swallow the water .... I think this could be one of the greatest sites in Britain but it needs to have the facilities repaired and the main toilet block needs to have the floors more regularly cleaned and the showers fitted with a regulator. The children's swings are loose at the top and the children's games room needs some decent games .and the pool area needs some seating ... the tennis court is very dangerous loose sharp stones needs clearing out the wildlife is great though from tiny lizards rabbits and what ever ate the remainder of our bbq left out overnight the staff seem helpful and friendly but really need to pull their fingers out about sorting this lovely spot out . 1. sweep the pool and clean all the leaves and bugs out EVERYDAY 2. clean the toilets and showers out in the reception block with some hard elbow grease and re-grout the tiles . im hoping when we go back this has all been done as the laid back atmosphere was wonderful ...

Room Tip: camp away from the lakes as the mossies got us good and proper ...

The site wsa nice and flat with plenty of trees for shade. The was was a reasonable size but poory stocked. The toilet and shower facilities were adequate but need upgrading. It is in a good location about 5 miutes by car into Poole. On the whole we enjoyed our stay.

I haven't been camping for over 30 years and this was a great experience. Helpful staff, great facilities, happy campers. Phones were charged for free, ice packs frozen, showers were hot, electricity available, secluded areas to camp in. Weather was very nice which I'm sure helped. It was still camping, not a hotel, but was excellent.
