A new owner is trying very hard to turn Mariners Guest House into the number one B and B in Poole, but I don't see how that could happen. First problem is the location: on a very busy street almost at the intersection of another very busy street, so the traffic is roaring by constantly. The place, despite a fresh coat of paint is very dreary. Bedroom was cramped, dimly lit, tiny, shabby bathroom. Breakfast was, in a word, poor. Among the most off-putting features were the plug-in deodorizers in the hall and in the bedroom, which were overpowering. Poole is not a small town. There have to be better places to stay.

When the author of this review arrived at the Mariners they were instantly not happy with the twin room at the front of the house due to the front of the house facing the main road. As an alternative, I offered them the twin room at the top of the house which is a lot quieter. This offer was declined as the stairs leading up to it are slightly inclined and this was also not suitable for this particular guest.

The deodoriser in the room was switched off when the guests went into the room as they said that the smell was a little strong. They then decided to strike a match in the room as they convinced me that this would dissipate any odours created from the deodoriser. This meant that once the match was struck there was no smell - according to their scientific advice.
I'm not quite sure what a poor breakfast is supposed to consist of but if you feel that a choice of possibly ten different cereals, porridge, choice of different flavoured yoghurts, including natural yoghurt, fruit juice, grapefruit, strawberries, summer berries, kiwi fruit, full english breakfast, tea, coffee and toast is a poor choice then suggestions would be gladly received.
It's very odd that the Managing Director of a Swiss company who is used to staying in 5star hotels, stayed in the very same room as the author of this review, only yesterday. When asked if everything was OK, his only complaint was that there wasn't a shelf in the shower to put his toiletries on (this has now been rectified).
We are centrally located for almost every amenity in Poole and to enable our guests to have this benefit it is pretty obvious that we would need to be situated in a central position geographically. This, therefore means that we are on the main road that leads to Sandbanks beach and some of our rooms face the road. The traffic can be busy during the day but by about 7pm it begins to quieten down. If you have a problem sleeping and like a quiet room it is best to mention this at the point of booking and I can then arrange to accommodate you in one of the back bedrooms.
We have recently had a writer from the newspaper "The Burton Mail" stay at the Mariners and she has written a fabulous review on Poole where the Mariners has been mentioned in some detail. I suggest that you take a look at their website and search on Poole and you will find it. It is completely to the contrary of what has been written about the Mariners in this review.
The words dreary, shabby and dimly lit seem to have cropped up quite often in other reviews written by this particular author. My guest house, I am happy to say, is anything but. Please come and see for yourselves.
