“Did the job!”

We stayed here as we went to a wedding near by. Hotel was the usual good standard of premier inns and had a very spacious room. The breakfast was good as usual.

“Not bad but plenty of other places to try”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013

We hadn't booked but rang about 30 minutes before we arrived and were treated very well by the duty manager. We had a table upstairs (which was better than downstairs as it can get a bit busy), and were looked after well by our waitress. I chose my main off the value menu (not called that but it was £12.99 for 2 courses), and said I'd see how I felt after about a sweet. Hubby had starter which was prawns in filo pastry (nice and hot). My main was a vegetarian pie (cheese and sweet red pepper which was very nice), but hubby'a t bone steak was really tough and poor quality for the £20 he spent on it. We chose a sweet off the value menu but didn't point that out to the waitress (thought she would know) and when the bill arrived and we hadn't been charged the value price for the pudding, the waitress was a bit surly with us for not mentioning it (last time we came the waiter said the computer worked out everything). That spoilt the evening a bit, so we won't be rushing back.

“Disgusting”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2013 via mobile

The food was awful, was really greasy and tasteless. The staff refused to let Us reorder and still charged us in full. Worst meal I have ever tasted, I ate one mouthful we all ended up leaving an going to macdonalds. This was a birthday meal out and was completely ruined.

“The lamb died in vain :-(”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2013

Without question the most terrible meal I have ever paid for. We were given steak knives with our lamb chops.......so they must have known the state that this poor Lamb's chop was in by the time in left the kitchen. And we should have guessed once we saw the cutlery. How can something so simple be so badly done?
We then stayed at the adjacent Premier Inn - which was warm, clean, comfortable and friendly - and were quite dreading breakfast.....as this was to be a return to the Oyster Reach. But the breakfast was a good hotel breakfast, lots of choice, all satisfying. V hard to believe it was the same place! We would do that again but we would not go there again for an evening meal after our experience. The bar and waiting staff were helpful and friendly, they and the heritage of this hostery; let alone the customers - all deserve better. The peas with my friend's gammon were actally like bullets, how did the kitchen do that to a pea?????

“Great place to eat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2013

I am not one to eat at a chain, but this was great. Service excellent and food piping hot. Couldn't do enough for my son on a special diet. Really helpful and understanding staff. Will definitely go again
