“A pleasant stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2013

The hotel was more than adequate for an overnight or even longer stay. The staff were exceptional in terms of the help and service they offered. We ate in the hotel in the evening and the food was more than adequate also. The only small issue I had was the wifi was sporadic and the rooms TV was a little small for such a sizeable room. Don't let that stop you staying there though. Will no doubt stay again.

We have stayed here a couple of times when attending Soul Town Chic band nights and cannot fault it for the money. The staff are friendly and helpful. The waiting staff could do with a little more training in order to make the restaurant feel less like a transport cafe but you cannot complain for the money we paid.

Stayed here for one night while visiting family. Comfortable quiet room 206 on first floor facing garden. Very few guests that night. Room clean and comfortable. I asked for fresh milk at bar which was provided. Rooms benefit from inner door to avoid the noise from doors slamming. Hotel seems dated but not a real problem. Breakfast was freshly cooked due to small number of visitors, so hot food was nice and hot. Would stay here again if in the area. Would agree that hotel has little atmosphere, but no real problem as I enjoyed the peace.

Room Tip: First floor facing garden - for quiet room.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012

We stayed for one night after visiting relatives nearby. It is a ten minute drive from the city centre, but that is the only disadvantage. There is nothing else to see or do in the immediate area, you need to drive some distance if you want to find a place to eat, if you are not eating in the hotel.
We paid only £45 for a double room including breakfast, excellent value.
The hotel is not modern, but is well looked after, the staff are friendly, reception staff were helpful and they suggested restaurants in town to us, as we were not eating in the hotel that evening. Our room was on the first floor, overlooking the front, but it was not at all noisy. It was a very big room indeed, comfortable bed, clean bathroom with smallish bath.
Those reviewers who say they were only given one towel, or did not have a kettle or tea making facilities obviously did not look in the drawers! Extra towels and kettle etc are all there!
No problems with the tv, the free wifi worked well.
Breakfast was served in the pleasant dining room, excellent service, although they didn't have any marmalade! The full English breakfast was very good, but why don't they provide small teapots for making your own tea, I had to go back three times to refill my cup using separate tea bags each time.
Overall, extremely good value for money. We would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Room 201. - on first floor, large, overlooking front of hotel, not noisy. Wifi worked well.

Stayed here on Saturday night, £30 special offer for our double room as we were attending 'The Soul & Motown Night' in one of the hotels function rooms.
Good points:
Our room 402 (grund floor) was clean & well maintained, the bed was very comfortable with crisp white sheets, very quiet with no night time noise. Staff were polite & helpfull.
Bad pints:
The tv was too small for the room & there was no kettle or tea tray, Bathroom was a bit dated, the room was very hot & we couldn't adjust the radiator so slept with the window open!

Stayed here with work. Staff were neither rude or friendly- just vacant. There was no ambience it was quite empty and there was just a hollow feeling to the place. On walking to my room later in the evening it struck me how similar the decor was to the Jack Nicholson film and then I couldn't sleep properly!!

Just a huge vacant hollow hotel that needs some life injecting into it and completely revamping.
