“Nice hotel but unfriendly bar staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2010

My room was clean, spacious, quiet and comfortable as were the public areas of the hotel that I used. The reception staff were friendly and welcoming. I mostly ate in the bar during my stay although the bar and the food is pricey - plus they got my order wrong one night. This wasn't a major problem as it was only a sandwich, but the 'couldn't care less' attitude of the barman wasn't great and he didn't have much of a table manner.

In addition, they charge about £15 for 24 hours internet use. I understand they're a business and have to make money but this is simply highway robbery! I pay that much *PER-MONTH* at home! Holiday Inn really should take lessons from some cheaper places that provide this sort of thing for free as a courtesy to their guests.

On the whole I would recommend Holiday Inn for business use, but I would consider somewhere else if I was paying myself.

The hotel is great and the staff were absolutely wonderful and helpfull. Breakfast was very good but the dinner which was a buffet was not that good. It has a delightfull swimming pool and the location is decent.

We stayed here on Priority Club points for three nights this month and would advise that the hotel itself is very nice, easily located and the service is excellent. The other reviews state that the bar prices are dear and that is most definitely the case. The breakfast is superb and very extensive but the evening meal that we had there on our first night was truely one of the worst meals that I have ever tasted in my life. I had King Prawn Thai curry - firstly there were no king prawns in the dish only shrimps/prawns and the prawn crackers were soft as were the small amount of poppadums that I ordered. My companion took the fish and salad and this was frozen fish in a pre-made batter heated up in the oven. When we asked for a bread roll such as the other tables had we were told this was only for the coach party guests (obviously paying full price for your evening meal does not entitle you to such luxuries!!!).

As I stated the hotel is very nice and the staff very helpful but for a drink and a meal get a taxi for £4 to The Begal restaurant / pub just down the road where you get cheap drink and very good food.

The hotel was clean, the bed was comfortable, good parking but out of town (adjacent to the A14) so a taxi was required to visit the city centre. Took an early breakfast for which the staff clearly weren't prepared. Bar prices expensive. All in all not much different to staying at any other Holiday Inn.

Excellent standards in the rooms, with air cond, clean (thank goodness ) the bed was comfortable . good leisure facitilies, the breakfast staff were well mannered and helpful. I have stayed in Holiday Inns in USA and North America and would stay here again.

I've stayed at this hotel on numerous occasions, & have never had cause to complain. The young ladies on the reception desk are always smart & professional, they wear their name on their lapel & a smile on their face. They are friendly, welcoming, & nothing seems too much trouble for them. I am always made to feel like a special guest. All the staff greet you with 'good morning' even if you meet them in the corridor. The rooms are not exciting, but they are always clean & well presented. The king size bed is great, with crisp white linen & plenty of pillows. The bathroom, although a little on the small side, has a good bath & shower, clean towels & toiletries. The price of internet connection is OK for a businessman on expenses, but far too costly for a leisure visitor. However, parking is good here, as you can almost always leave your car within a stone's throw of your room, which makes loading luggage a lot easier than at some hotels. I've have never eaten in the restaurant, as I'm afraid it's out of my price range, but breakfast is always good, the chef keeps an eye out to see that everything is topped up, & the waitresses are very attentive. My only criticism is that the coffee is served out of vacuum jugs, often cool & sometimes on the stewed side. Tea, with an extra jug of boiling water, is a better option. The pool & spa bath are great, always lovely & warm, clean & very enjoyable, with towels provided. It is one of the reasons I opt to stay at this particular hotel.
