“Fantastic Independent Arthouse Cinema”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2014

This independent cinema is run as a not-for-profit by a team of enthusiastic volunteers.

There's a little kiosk selling cheap drinks, sweets, and ice-creams. The coffee is fresh percolated and the ice-creams are local.

The listings are made up of films that you won't get to see elsewhere peppered with the highest quality of general release films.

Its kinda hidden away in the basement of the Corn Exchange with the entrance opposite The Swan pub so you need to go looking for it but if you like films it is well worth it.

“Beautifully Quaint.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2014

This is how cinema is supposed to be! The price is very good and if you are under 25 a ticket only cost around £3! They don't show the mainstream movies that you would see at Cineworld or the Odeon and thats a good thing. Its a little treasure in Ipswich which not enough people are taking advantage of. Give it a go, you will be converted.

“A little box of culture!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2014

Ipswich Film Theatre has gone through many changes of management over the years and currently it is owned by a group of stake-holders and essentially run as a charity. All of the ushers are enthusiastic volunteers. It is a very cosy and welcoming little cinema, leagues away from Odeon or VUE. There's always an interesting selection of films through the month and if you want an intimate, quiet cinema experience, without the rustle of popcorn, this is the place to be.

“Great cinema but could do with some comfy seats”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2014

This is a great "independent" cinema, where ticket prices are very reasonable and there are a good variety of indie films on offer. However, the seats cause a numb posterior and I would go more often if I could actually feel my derriere after 25 minutes.

“Little Gem of a Cinema and Friendly Staff to Greet You”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2013

This cinema used to be run by the local council but is now run by volunteers who try really hard to give brilliant customer service. Where else can you see obscure, independant, foreign films, in comfortable seats (back row has wide, comfy padded seats), and be greeted by friendly people who care about the service they are providing whilst not getting paid. There's always a cheery person offering drinks as you go in, from a small cupboard-like nook. It's a brilliant place to go and see a film (the cinema, not the cupboard-like nook). It's clean too and never has noisy yobs with their phones going off during the film. They also have live link ups with National Theatre productions although these sell out very very quickly. Long may the Film Theatre in Ipswich continue. Thanks should go to the wonderful volunteer staff members.
