Description: This is a lovely Gastro Pub, the new owners took over in October 2009 and have fantastic plans. They only serve locally brewed Bitter and Lager plus a great wine list. Mike is a fantastic chef and the staff are always friendly, smiling and helpful. Lots of space for private parties or meetings. Daily fresh menu with local produce.

If you want a good meal and some good ale, then this is the place to go - ask for the docks bollards, after a few of these you will need to be carefull when you ask for your next pint!

“Lovely old pub”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2012

Went to the Brewery Tap in Ipswich about a week ago following some good reports from work colleagues.
Firstly it could do with being a little bit better sign-posted! You nearly have to drive onto the actual port of Ipswich before you see this incredibly tatty looking building tucked away behind some trees.
As you approach the pub your heart sinks a little as it requires a little bit of TLC on the outside BUT when you enter you realise that it is very much a 'work in progress' and inside it is really lovely (if you like old pubs!).
Lovely old wooden floors, beams, old furniture, and probably the best actual bar I've seen in years. Wonderful patina I think the antique experts describe it.
Small lunch-time menu of perhaps 6-8 dishes which I like, that usually means it is really home-cooked and not just re-heated. We decided to go for the sandwich menu mostly because they had salt beef which is a favourite of mine, my partner had the club sandwich.
Quick service and the salt beef (I would say there had to be half a pound!) was some of the best I have ever tasted! One very minor issue was that it was covered in melted cheese which was lovely but a little bit too much and half-way through became a bit over-powering. Bit less cheese bit more sauerkraut for me but that is a personal thing. Partners club sandwich was HUGE, beautifully prepared and very fresh. Very good value at £8 each.

The waitress was charm itself, lovely smile, helpfully showed me a representative evening menu and even wrapped up a little bit of left-over salt beef for the dog!

Dont give up trying to find the Brewery Tap! It's worth the search, don't be put off by the exterior but do wear a coat (it was a bit chilly inside).

All in all an excellent restaurant and we shall definitely return.

“Great food and friendly service in a wonderful setting.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2012

We love our "real" food - I cook from scratch at home all the time, and we really, really struggle when it comes to eating out - we are nearly always disappointed with "pub grub" or chain restaurants - and even the "posh" places often don't deliver considering the money they charge. We stumbled across the Brewery Tap by searching Google for "Good Sunday Roasts Ipswich". The reviews were good, and we took a chance and booked for 3.30pm. We loved it as soon as we walked in - a proper, charming, rustic old place, full of character, and lots of different little "nooks and crannies" and rooms off of the main bar area to create a feeling of seclusion and intimacy, but still retaining the feel of being in a warm and friendly "gastro-pub". The staff were welcoming and friendly, nothing was too much trouble, and they obviously had a passion for what they were doing. The food was superb, beautifully cooked and reasonably priced for what it was - we had the pork belly, the roast chicken and the half pound burger - it was faultless, perfectly cooked and just wonderful. I could not recommend the Brewery tap more - we just wish we didn't have a 40 minute drive to get there!

“My best meal this year!”

Had Sunday lunch at the Brewery tap and the guinea foul was superb. We had cheese cake for desert which was very good, like all the deserts served there. Can't speak highly enough about this pub!
