The hotel and neighbouring housing blocks are built on brownfield site by the river. There’s a new bridge linking to industry and commerce on the north bank, and a riverside path to the marina and restaurants. Regeneration of the area has only been partially successful, the riverside walk was pleasant enough but floral memorials en route warned against returning that way at night.
The small car park is surrounded by buildings on three and a half sides, some of which comprise the hotel. The entrance is not always apparent, tucked in a corner and easily obscured by squeezed-in vehicles. Outside this limited compound, the walls host small-printed black and yellow warning notices and the sense of lurking clampers.
Many of the clientele were groups of guys with vans and conferencing laptoppers, a few of whom enjoyed a few smokes and drinks outside at 2am, loudly, for the benefit of those on the second floor.
You would be forgiven for expecting high quality chef cooked food in the evening. The prices and lavish menu promises as much. However what we ate could be prepared by anyone with a working knowledge of freezers, microwaves and deep fat fryers. The breakfast buffet was hit-and-miss and again not as promised by the brochure.
An extra pillow costs 50p according to the room notes. I wonder if anyone has ever walked out with one, declaring that 50p is surely the purchase price – charging to borrow one is unheard of.
There was a novel floor level tea making facility ideal for oriental ceremonial purposes but a bit hard on the knees - the floor was entirely lacking carpet. This was the low point of my visit (excuse pun).
A lot of money appears to have been spent on décor and marketing. Ramada is keenly recouping it from their customers.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.
We note the charge you highlighted with regard to extra pillows, I can reassure you that we do not charge for extra pillows.
I am also disappointed that your dinner experience was less than best and we have passed this information to our head chef.
We do hope to have an opportunity to welcome you back to the hotel in the near future.
