“Overpriced, tiny room, paper thin walls - would not go back even at half price..!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

We booked a last minute break and while we were happy to find a hotel that still had a room left at such short notice i wish i had booked a little earlier and found somewhere else. Nice greeting on arrival was probably the only pleasant part of our stay. For the price that we paid the room was very much overpriced as although the view was nice the room was tiny and the bathroom something that only a small child would feel comfortable in. Had a poor nights sleep on an uncomfortable bed and at 630am the hotel seemed to get woken up by dozens of people leaving to go home which in itself should not be a problem but as the walls seemed paper thin it was impossible to get back to sleep. After breakfast we tried to have a snooze before check out but this was also made impossible by all the noise made by cleaners outside our room and again paper thin walls meant that any movements or cleaning next door at 9am made sure that no snooze would be possible. On check out i was not asked if my stay was a good one or not and so i made it my point to say that we had not enjoyed our stay due to the noise by people checking out or the cleaners. Surprisingly the lady seemed shocked about me complaining about the constant noise I was spoken to as if it was normal for cleaners to be making such noise at 9am and that why would anybody try to sleep in at this time..?! As check out is 11am surely some people would like to have a lazy start to the Sunday morning but not in this hotel. The lady who i spoke to surely needs a crash course on customer relations as she left the taste in my mouth even worse than it already was from an overall very unsatisfactory stay. This hotels ranking in trip advisor seems about right. This is my first time ever on trip advisor which surely says it all about the feelings of my stay.

Room Tip: One far away from the stairs and bring some ear plugs......!!

I'm not sure that this hotel should qualify as 3* when comparable hotels I've stayed at are a lot brighter and refreshed. The room had a strange L Shaped layout with one bed facing the wall and very small portable, old TV and the other bed tucked into a corner. The toilet/shower was small and the state of the shower-mat left a lot to be desired ! We chose not to have dinner as they appeared to be pre-occupied with a coach party - perhaps we should have persevered as Llandudno itself appeared deserted. Breakfast was fine but our table was the main passing route for the staff looking after the coach party so not exactly relaxing. I can't say that this stay was value for money.

Pros: Centrally situated, hotel staff very friendly (excludes reception), breakfast really great with wide selection and cooked well. The entrance and public rooms were to a high standard and welcoming.
Cons: Reception staff, on arrival "no welcome" and on booking out "no thank you did you enjoy your stay?" just asked for key and continued chatting amongst themselves this at mid morning check out. A charm offensive would not go amiss and how to treat visitors.
The bedroom on the third floor (sea facing) was extremely small with the wash basin in the bedroom and the toilet/bath/shower separate in again a small cubicle. It was clean but the mattress was well worn and sagged in the middle. The furniture appeared to date from the 1960s and was well worn. However the window could have done with a clean and from the grime and accumulated dirt in the steel frames probably had not been cleaned since installation. The sun shone outside but very little found its way into the room. Plenty of tea and coffee together with bathroom bits and pieces supplied. If two large people occupied this room then the order of the day would be breathing in to move around or one person stayed in bed whilst the other moved around.
An adequate(just about) hotel.

Room Tip: Many other hotels in the vicinity with probably better accommodation..

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome.Although the car park at the rear was a tight fit one of the staff guided me in. Our twin room was clean and adequate. We chose to eat in on both nights because our four course meal was plentiful and good value.A choice of two comfortable lounges enabled us to enjoy coffee overlooking the sea. A special thanks to the bar and restaurant staff for being so cheerful and courteous.

Room Tip: Perhaps avoid a room near the lift!

I can't praise Mr and Mrs Paddock enough. Alan and Jill came to our rescue last week (Mon April 15,2023) when we arrived with a coach party of 48 plus driver to find that the holiday firm we had arranged our break through (Seniors Tour, otherwise known as Route 66 Holidays) had not paid the balance owed for the party. Apparently only a small deposit had been been paid. Alan and Jill rallied round and we negotiated a fee of £100 per person for the week and everyone on the coach sorted out the monies. Thanks to Alan and Jill we had a wonderful holiday, they made us extremely welcome, food and rooms were good and they turned round what would have been a disasterous holiday into a one with many good memories. However, the same can not be said of Mr Charles Anthy Phipps and his holiday firm!!!!!

Stayed at the somerset over easter for a 3 night break, booked a double and single room, requested sea views and got both rooms with lovely sea views and right next door to each other. The staff were all friendly and couldnt haven done more for us, even bringing toast to the room as they thought we had forgot the clocks went forward. We left some clothes behind when we left and they sent them to us within 48 hours. The food was lovely and a good choice at every meal, the rooms were very clean as was the whole hotel would stay there again and recommend it to anyone else.

Room Tip: request a sea view as the view is excellent

Booked on the last minute as we had originally booked the Royal Hotel and it went into administration day before we went. Even though booked through Late rooms took all our money! We booked DB&B as it was an offer, we were given a double room and mum had a single room (211 & 210) both had seaviews which is unusual for a single room. Double very big, lovely and clean and individual heating which is great as most hotels are either too hot or cold! Single very small room but was again clean, and individual heating.
The staff were all very pleasant and we had two light bulbs missing which were replaced the following morning.
The standard of the food left a bit to be desired. choice of starters/main meals and sweets. The veg was stone cold and i heard 3 other people comment on the same. The hotel caters for coach parties which eat in a seperate dining room, so not sure if everything cooked early for them and the rest not kept warm. Ran out of most sweets on the first night. Breakfast was not great, obviously cooked and kept warm. Toast cold, fried bread rock hard and the rest luke warm. Shame as the hotel its self was very nice. They have limited parking for about 15 cars so you would have to be lucky (as we were) to get a space. Didn't stay in for the evening entertainment heard it from reception and that was enough (fine for the elderly i suppose). Would use the hotel again if they did room only as its right on the frount and 5 mins for the centre of Llandudno.
