“short break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2013

Stayed with partner and disabled mother for 2 nights break August 9/10 2013. We had 2 rooms on the ground floor..room 1 and 2. Only those two rooms in the corridor which made it private for us to commute between rooms.. Rooms were big and spacious, nice, clean and perfect for my mother being on ground floor as no lifts to other rooms. Breakfasts were great and staff very friendly. Only downside was a little too far for mother to walk to town, but staff got us a very good taxi service and all in all it was a great holiday . Would go back again but only if room 1 and 2 were available.

Room Tip: Pick rooms one or two. Big and spacious!

I stayed in the penthouse which consisted of two rooms I noticed it is not on the hotel website now I see why the room was so dusty, the furniture cheap the shower in the bathroom has been crudely installed the other room had an iron stain on the carpet the walls need to be repainted and the carpet on the staircase needs to be replaced. the bathroom does not have adequate lighting, the owner is friendly and so are the staff but housekeeping is very poor in the rooms for the amount we paid it was daylight robbery for what we got. The valance sheet on my bed was torn and the windows need cleaning as there was bird poop there was lack of attention to details basic things like cleaning , breakfast was average downstairs is nice and clean and decorated well its a shame that has not been transferred upstairs a major renovation is required in the rooms not keen on purple walls, bedside lamp and curtains too much purple.

Room Tip: the sea view is excellent shame about the quality, décor and cleanliness of the room

Very helpful owner and friendly staff. Nothing too much bother. We had three rooms for two nights. Very clean. Lashings of hot water. Good views. Easy parking. A fair walk into town centre but it's flat and beautiful. Super breakfast and lovely evening meals. Ham and eggs - delicious. Home baked ham - super taste. Freshly cooked and big portions. Sandwiches also beautifully presented. Scones served with jam, cream and fresh strawberries - a meal in itself. Scrunptious. Just a lovely stay with lovely people.

Room Tip: Go for superior if you can. No lift but does have ground floor rooms.

What a disappointment! We booked a deluxe king-size room with sea view. This is not deluxe and the website is misleading. it is a small B&B st best, not a hotel. On arrival we were given a room called the Boudoir on the ground floor with a double bed and partial sea view - it was very dark, dusty and quite tacky and we were told that this was temporary for one night and they would be moving us to a better room for the next two nights. The price charged to us for each night was the same. The bathroom was extremely basic and unappealing. Good points were white fluffy towels and tea tray with biscuits.

We were moved to a 2nd floor room the next day. The shower (attached to bath taps) only dribbled cold to lukewarm water - we had no hot water for bath or shower for three nights despite reporting the problem - we were told the tank must have run out! On checkout we talked to the owner who said he would look at getting it fixed and apologised as no-one had told him. Only a small soap and one sachet of cheap shampoo was provided. There were cracked tiles in the bathroom, a tide mark on the bath.

There seemed a lack of care in the cleaning of rooms and some areas were not cleaned at all. The television and mirrors were dirty and under the bed looked like it had never been hoovered, the areas under lamps etc never dusted. The tiny television in the room did not work properly, although that wasn't important to us.

The bed the first night was ok although smaller than expected (it was not a king as described). The second room's bed although king-sized was hard and my back has been aching for two day.
Breakfast was mediocre although well cooked and the staff were pleasant and friendly. There is no availability for bar meals as described in the blurb. There is also no garden. The 'terrace, garden and sun terrace' described on website are one and the same - a small beer garden out front of the premises. The breakfast room boasts views of the sea and promenade but that is only for a few tables in the bar area. The hotel (it's NOT a hotel) was full and all three days we sat in the dining room which was a small dark room, a step away from the communal toilet. We had no sea views at breakfast.

They describe the hotel as elegant and they have used lots of dark black and silver wallpaper and furnishings in pseudo French Rococo style. However instead of providing large pieces of redundant furniture in the rooms and imposing colour schemes we feel the money would be better spent on updating the bathrooms and making the rooms more comfortable and getting the hot water to work.

Good points: fabulous sea view from upstairs room, tea tray, fluffy towels, large room, pleasant breakfast staff, free parking off road.

We have just returned from a 5 night break, staying at the Manor. When booking we were told that hotel does bar meals, however it turns out the bar meals were only available at the weekend, hence a bit of a walk into town. The only fault is a bit noisy Saturday, as people can sit outside drinking on front terrace till about 12.30 am, but apart from that, it was good.
Breakfast was excellent, Room 4 very nice with excellent view.
Mark and staff excellent service, cannot fault.
Would return.

Room Tip: Room 4, but can hear noise from outside
