“Lovely location, very clean and enormous portions!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2011

The Merrion is situated on the promenade at Llandudno, not far from the pier and the Punch and Judy show. The hotel offers clean rooms with lovely views of the front, customer parking and friendly service. My brother recommended it to us and we stayed for a night in August. The meals were tasty and offered enormous portions which even my teenage son struggled to finish. A 3 course dinner was included in the price. Breakfast was a buffet style cereal/yoghurt bar followed by a very full English breakfast. My only reservation was the slowness of the waitresses in taking our orders for both lunch and dinner. They focused on serving a coach party who were in at the same time and it took a good 15 minutes before anyone approached our table. Saying that, once we had ordered, the food was out on the table very quickly so there was no complaint about the efficiency of the kitchen staff. We would definitely stay there again and found it to be reasonably priced compared to other hotels on the front.

Room Tip: You have to have a sea view and some rooms are a little larger for the same price

Thank you for posting your comments, I am pleased you enjoyed your stay with us and that you enjoyed the food we serve, our difficulty in the restaurant is that everyone rushes in together, so it is often difficult to serve everyone quickly. Many thanks and we look forward to welcoming you again.

I stayed there last christmas for a festive break. The rooms were cold and they took out the heaters so we had to use extra blankets. The food was rather upsetting because my husband fell very ill, it also seemed very nice but it was over cooked and too salty. We had to stay in the room for a day because of toilet trouble, other guests were complaining of the same problem. We did leave a feedback card but the cleaning lady said that the housekeeper would just rip it up when we left. My friends who stayed left a watch behind and the hotel never got in touch about it. When we spoke to a neighbour about it he had heard that the housekeeper was overheard saying it would do her mother for a christmas present! and that the owner and his wife usually keep the gold jewellery for themselves. Charming. Never again.

Room Tip: the rooms at the front have good views of the sea. At the back you can sell all the staff smoking in...

I am sorry you felt the need to post these negative comments some 12 months after you were apparently so upset. All of our rooms have central heating with electric heaters available if required. All customer comments are returned to reception and never ripped up and your comment about stealing jewelery is plain offensive.

Just returned from a 3 night stay at this hotel with my Mum and Aunt who have already stayed here before and suggested we stay at this hotel whilst we like to visit the David Roberts shoe shop each year and enjoy the town.
We ended up on a Turkey & Tinsel weekend which was unintentional, but fun anyway, and had a single and twin room on the 3rd floor so we actually arrived on "Christmas Eve"! The rooms were adequate and comfortable for our needs though we found the lighting not too good, otherwise, comfy beds, daily towel change and refreshed hospitality trays served to make our stay a good one.
The location is great, with views of the pier and the Orme, and close to the pier where you can get on to the tour buses.
The food was up to expectation and cooked to perfection with a large choice of menu changed daily, and had difficulty in choosing from the 16 puddings on offer!!
The service was excellent, especially the dining room staff who were efficient and courteous and nothing was too much trouble for them and it was nice to be entertained in the ballroom after your meal.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone, in particular for its good value for money and the nature of its location. We went on the tour bus which travels to Conway and around Llandudno and your ticket is valid for 24 hours to hop on and off where you wish, also excellent value! We hope to return again next year for a longer stay.

Stayed many times at this wonderful family run hotel.I cannot praise this hotel enough. From the time you arrive to the time you leave the staff can not do enough to make you feel welcome. I take my disabled mother to this hotel and she is made to feel welcome. This hotel is suitable for elderly. Any Daughter trying to choose a hotel to bring their elderly parents away.I highly recommend the Merrion. The food is first class. Once you have visited this hotel all guest return. A member of my family arranged a coach tour to this hotel and never had one complaint on return.

Room Tip: Ist floor rooms sea facing without balcony, are bigger than the ones with a balcony. all very nice...

We've just returned from staying at this hotel for 4 nights. We were allocated a room on the 3rd floor with a view of the pier and the beach. It was a bit small but had everything you wanted including a walk-in shower and refreshments tray. We had clean towels every day except for the day before we left. I suggest you take your own shower gel though because the only one we used was not replaced.

We were with a tour group and had our luggage taken to our room on arrival, and returned to the coach on departure which was much appreciated. The best thing about this hotel is the food which was superb - I understand that the chefs are sons of the owner. The breakfast bacon and sausages in particular were very tasty, as indeed was everything else. There was a wide choice on all evening dinner courses and you would have to stay for several weeks in order to get through them!

We always went for a walk after dinner, so didn't get to see much of the evening entertainment, but from what our fellow travellers said, this was also very good.

We hadn't been to Llandudno for over 30 years and were delighted to see how lovely it was with everything looking clean and cared for. We managed to find time to look around the shops and to take the tram to the top of the Great Orme for its' wonderful views. We also visited other places in the area including the Snowdon Mountain Railway so all in all we thoroughly enjoyed North Wales.

Finally, if you are looking for a clean, well cared for hotel in a great location with fantastic food, then look no further and book into the Merrion.

Went with my wife who is 82 years old and in a wheelchair, as soon as we arrived we where made to feel welcome, the receptionist called for a porter to take our luggage to our room and reserved a table in the restaurant near to the entrance, upon arrival at the table the head waiter asked if my wife would like to stay in her wheelchair or sit in a seat she chose to sit in her wheelchair, he then removed the chair and I was able to push the wheelchair under the table, the head waiter then ensured that the space remained clear for the rest of the week

we reserved a sea view room on the third floor overlooking the promenade and pier, we checked into room 322, the room was spacious and airy and was very clean and we had a kettle and tea coffee and milk this was topped up on a daily basis so we was always able to have a nice cup of Tea or Coffee

we also had a nice bathroom with a walk in shower

the only negative I have about the room is that the beds where a little to firm for my liking and it took a while to get used to them

we stayed on a BB and evening meal basis, the food in the restaurant was wonderful with a great choice of starter's, main meal and a choice of 14 desserts, I have to say that the food and presentation was some of the best that we have ever received in our varied hotel stays both home and abroad

the staff of the hotel where all very friendly and nothing was to much trouble for them and they went out of there way to help if anyone needed assistance

there where plenty of comfortable seats in the lounge area and the hotel bar had nightly entertainment which was very good and it also had a very nice dance floor

we had a fantastic time at the Merrion Hotel and I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking to stay in Llandudno, we will surely return sometime in the near future
