“Superb Bed and Breakfast Establishment”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2014

We usually stay in a hotel when travelling, so this was the first time we have tried a Bed and Breakfast. I have been known to be very "picky " and critical of the standard of
many holiday accommodations, so it is with great pleasure I am able to compliment Wendy on
her establishment. Not only was it on a par with our own home, as far as taste and comfort is
concerned, but her warm hosting made an enjoyable stay even more pleasant, Her home- made bread and preserves were an added treat. If we come down to Eastbourne in the future we
will definitely book Ocklynge Manor.,

Room Tip: Room 3 was light-filled with a wonderful view of the beautiful garden

We have just returned from a delightful stay at Ocklynge Manor. The Georgian house stands on ancient site going back to Roman times and once an important Commandery of the Knights of St John of Jerusalem. The high boundary wall hides a garden that will take your breath away.

The rooms are clean, spacious and very comfortable and there is a choice of configuration, from a large multi-room suite to a spacious twin bedded room. The Breakfasts are wonderful with a good choice of fresh homemade food and plenty of fruit - I particularly enjoyed the Smoked Salmon and Scrambled Egg. Fresh starched napkins, says a lot - not a paper serviette in sight!!

The hosts, Wendy and David are attentive and a mine of information about Eastbourne, the surrounding area and the best places to visit - nothing seems to be too much trouble. I suspect that this gem gets booked up early, so an early booking is advised. We have been trying to get in here for some time and found that in the high season it fills up quickly.

Ocklynge Manor deserves its good reputation, reassuringly priced to keep out "the great unwashed", who wouldn't appreciate it anyway. An elegant, peaceful, relaxing place to stay.

Room Tip: The entrance is not obvious, look for a high flint wall with a belvedere or tower at one end and hal...

This was the second time I have stayed at Ocklynge having previously been here in 2010. The intervening years have not seen the quality of this B&B change. It's still as very good and a great place to stay to explore what Sussex has to offer. Remarkably good value for a 5 star stay. Highly recommended.

Ocklynge Manor is a lovely place to stay. Everything about the place is perfect - Wendy is an excellent host who goes out of her way to help you in every way, including with information about places of interest in the area and local restaurants etc; breakfast was excellent and our rooms were very beautifully furnished and maintained. And make sure you leave some time to visit the lovely garden. All round this was a five star experience and fantastic value for money.

We were welcomed quite late in the day by Wendy. A lovely warm welcome that put us at ease.
The room was comfortable and very clean. We both slept very well and enjoyed our stay. It is definitely worth walking around the garden, even in February, and we were amazed that Wendy and her husband do all the gardening themselves. Breakfast was freshly cooked to order and Wendy coped well with serving and cooking on her own. There were lots of little touches in the room which helped to make the stay special. We would definitely return, hopefully in warmer weather.

Faultless. An elegant house with immense character, a fascinating history, and a stunning garden. Wendy is a perfect hostess, nothing is too much trouble, the rooms are beautifully fitted out and very comfortable, immaculately clean, every facility is provided (including dressing gowns and slippers!), the food is first class, there is parking on site, free wifi and Wendy even offered to drive us to our friends' house! Couldn't be bettered. Thank you for a perfect stay, wouldn't consider anywhere else for B & B in the area from now on.

What a delightful surprise to find such a place. Everything was so lovely starting with the welcoming tray of tea and delicious cake to the kind lift down to the train station. Wendy and David have created an exceptional place in their restoration and decoration of this interesting, historic house and gardens. Wendy's superb hospitality is evident at every turn. You'll love it so much that you will not want to leave. Thank you Wendy.
