“Nice and Clean with good food.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2013

Just returned from a seven night stay and had a really good time. Stayed here before and had a smoking room for the wife that faced the back of the hotel. Can't complain for £70 per night, but the sea birds was squawking at 06.00. Next time will pay the extra and have a room on the front.
Nice rooms facing the front so good to have a beer and just relax.
Mainly for the older generation but did see some young blood staying here.

Room Tip: Try and book a room on the front, if you don't like seagulls.

I am pleased that you so enjoyed your recent seven night stay and do hope we shall have the pleasure of seeing you again.

I am afraid there is little we can do about the noise of the birds as they are part of the character of a seaside town, but I hope they did not cause you too much disturbance.

We booked for two nights at The Lansdowne to be pampered for a couple of days,we only live a few miles away but as I cannot travel far now (due to age and infirmity) we thought we would give this a try.How glad we are.Our room had a sea view so comfortable and clean
,the staff were so attentive our every need was catered for. The food was first rate. We had guest for afternoon tea the Lansdowne special, our guests eyes popped out when they saw it arrive superb was the only word to describe it. Dinner with our daughter and her husband in the evening was another thumbs up waiters so attentive but not intrusive food excellent. We can't wait for our next visit. Our daughter said "who wants the continent with views like this. Len.Elphick

I am delighted that you so enjoyed your stay with us and that you intend to visit again. We pride ourselves on providing a first rate service, which is why we have so many guests who return to us year after year.

Thank you particularly for the very kind comments you made concerning the Lansdowne Afternoon Tea; I am so pleased that you and your guest enjoyed it.

I stayed two years ago and thought that the hotel had improved significantly since then.
It was easy to book and reasonably priced. The room was comfortable with a view over the front for a very small premium. It was eccentric that the towel rail was full on and not easy to turn off when the temperature outside was 26C.
Breakfast was of a good and substantial nature and the arrangements for sitting down relaxed. The service for coffee and toast was prompt.
If I were this hotel I would amend the website to say
a. they have free wifi
b. What the parking arrangements are (they mention the garages for rent but not the voucher system).
Service in the bar and lounge late in the evening was also good and reasonably priced.
I would go back.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms are a bit bigger and come at a small supplement.

I stayed here with my elderly grandparents. The staff were extremely helpful. Rooms were clean and some have sea views. The restaurant food is plentiful and decent but basic. They have parking garages to rent which is useful.

Stayed at this hotel for a family birthday celebration. It is the second time we have been with the family. It is situated in a quiet part of Eastbourne ,minutes from the sea.
As it was my fathers birthday he and my stepmum were upgraded to a lovely room with a seaview .It looks as though the bedrooms have have been refurbished and we found them to be very comfortable and extremely clean.Personally, I would prefer a duvet rather than blankets.
We booked for dinner and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meal The staff in the restuarant and throughout the hotel were very friendly and efficient.
Was a little disappointed with the breakfast as there were no croissants or pastries. The only choice of yogurts were plain which not everybody likes.Maybe we arrived too late ! Again we were served by happy friendly staff.
Unfortunatly the only area that lets the hotel down for me are the corridors. Dated pictures and floral carpets just reminded me of a nursing home.I hope that like the bedrooms these areas may be updated as it is a lovely building and i think some different pictures and carpet would really make a difference
The Hotel is in a great position and i have no hesitation in recommending The Lansdowne,

Thank you for the very kind comments you made in your review following a recent family birthday celebration. I am pleased that you found the rooms to be comfortable and extremely clean, but have noted your comment concerning preferring a duvet on your bed.

I am glad that you all enjoyed your dinner, but am sorry that you would have liked to have been offered croissants and pastries for breakfast. These are certainly normally served every day but are obviously subject to availability.

We do indeed have an ongoing refurbishment programme and are constantly upgrading our 102 bedrooms, together with the public lounges etc. The corridors have been repainted but the carpet and pictures are yet to be upgraded.

I am very grateful that you have taken the time to post such a positive review and I do hope we shall have the pleasure of welcoming you back before too long.

This elegant hotel has kept its good standard. the hotel is classically furnished, the bedrooms have been refurbished but have kept traditional furniture and lovely curtains and bedcovers. There are coffee\tea making facilities always a welcome sight in a bedroom., The breakfast is now a buffet style , with an excellent choice .of hot and cold food.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2013

We recently visited Eastbourne on family business. We stayed at the Lansdowne Hotel, one of the Best Western chain. Having previously stayed at other hotels on the seafront and been disappointed at what lies behind the façade we chose the Lansdowne with an open mind. We enjoyed a very large double room with sea views and for a small payment a garage was provided where we could store our car. The breakfast was inclusive and full English with good service, and we took an Evening Meal one night which was very reasonably priced and of good quality. All in All we thought the Lansdowne a very comfortable hotel, and whilst on the higher side of the price range, for two nights it was worth the money. If needs be we would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Over 60s with bus passes can travel free on the open top tour bus which leaves from the Pier on the...
