“Lovely hotel for elderly ladies”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2009

My mother and disabled aunt visited here last month and had a lovely time - the weather was amazing, they had a lovely room with sea views and it was big enough for my aunt to move around easily.
Most of the time they enjoyed the meals but their main comment was there was much to much on their plates and they hated wasting food. They would have preffered to have vegetable dishes where they could serve themselves. They did ask for this and did get them on 2 occasions. Older people don't really like 'modern' food eg mange tout.
Also they were charged extra for one meal they had of pork chops and they are not too sure why!
So all in all they had a lovely holiday and were very pleased with their room but the food could've been better.

Stayed in sea view rooms which were of a good size with excellent views across beach and pier. Decoration was fairly standard but clean and light. Staff very helpful. Parking was no trouble at all, cheap voucher availble from hotel for parking outside. Food was good and well served.

This is a fairly old property but is clean and well looked after, the rooms could do with a refurb to bring them up to modern standards though. bathrooms dated (but clean).
bed comfortable. if you paid the full price you might be disappointed so get a deal from a discount website. good location for the town. parking could be problematic/expensive if you can't find a space in the adjacent side-street.
the breakfast buffet was pretty dire. the scrambled eggs were sitting in puddles of watery liqiud, the fried eggs swimming in grease, sausages cheap.
the so-called swimming pool was small and pretty ghastly. i had brought my swimming kit but decided not to use the pool.
staff all very pleasant, check-in/out efficiently managed.
a couple of shouting matches in the corridor very late at night.
free wi-fi.

Right on the seafront within 500 yards of the Pier. On street car parking with vicious street wardens can be problem. Parking can take a while and costly. You can park on the hotel side of the road at a reduced rate if you can find a space. Staff were very good. Reception quick and polite. Restaurant faultless, great service, always smiles and the evening meal choice also good. The white wine at £12.50 is a belter. Room could have been better but its a place to sleep. Bed was a standard 4ft 6" divan which would upset some of our American cousins. Could do with being Queen sized. Bath narrow, slippy and no rubber bath mat.
Ideal for a weekend break. Paid £159 for two night B & B inc dinner on the first night. This should have cost £20 a head so £119 for B & B. Good value.
Pool needs checking. Lots of little black bits floating around and it needs cleaning out.

the hotel is in a lovely positin close to all amenities. it is a stones throw from the pier and no need for cabs or cars as everything is within walking distance to the town, bars, restaurants and so on. I found the staff very friendly who made your stay worth while and were very accommodating to our needs. The hotel has been recently refurbished and is amazing downstairs, but the rooms itself were abit outdated and could definately do with a serious makeover. Otherwise, if you are looking for a clean room it has that and like i said the position it lies in is superb.

Had a great room overlooking the sea. cleaned every day and fresh towels every day too which was a surprise. The swimming pool was lovely though changing facilities a bit dated. The problem was the service at mealtimes. Food was o.k but being in a party of 40 seemed to be a problem for the staff. Vegetables were bought to the table some 20 minutes before the meat or fish or vice versa!! Had been to the hotel when it was family owned and before Best Western. It was a friendlier place when family owned. Wouldn't recommend it if you are looking for good service.

Thank you for your review.

I am concerned about the comments on the food service. this will be discussed with the Departmental Head and I will closely moniter the situation over the coming weeks.

The first room was fine but the bathroom was so smelly-obviously plumbing problems. Reception found us another
"room". Window would not open and had black tape where it was cracked. The walls and ceiling showed signs of damp and the room was so small my husband and I would have had to take turns moving around-it was really a single room with a 4' bed.Back to reception and much head scratching. Eventually given a much better room at the front. Breakfast was OK.
