“Good Hotel!...Just a few niggles”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2013

My boyfriend and I (early 20s) have just returned from a week at the hotel. First impressions were very good, the staff at reception are very welcoming and the hotel porter who showed us to our room was very friendly and helpful. When we were shown to our room (side sea-view), our expectations were exceeded. The room overlooked the beach which was lovely! The rooms have been recently refurbished and are very modern with a huge bed, nice simple décor, a safe which is free to use, good aircon, 2 large mirrors, English plug sockets, hairdryer, fridge etc. The maids were all very friendly and hard working and our towels were changed daily. The staff throughout the hotel, especially the reception staff and those who worked within the shop were extremely helpful and friendly. Also, as we arrived late, we had missed dinner so we were given a meal voucher which we used for lunch one day as we were half board. One niggle I had was with the pool bar staff who sometimes seemed a bit ignorant and miserable and when we ordered lunch they left us waiting ages because I think they had forgotten, but maybe that was just me reading too much into it. The pool area was where we spent the majority of our time however there are limited sunbeds which meant we ended up going down at 7am to reserve them with our towels! However there are more than enough beds in the hotels garden area which is located between the pool area and the beach which is just as nice! The beach is beautiful and the waves look amazing and when the sun sets its incredible! However the beach is very small so you would again need to get there early if you wanted somewhere to lay. The animation team set up games throughout the day and all seemed very jolly and we often got involved and won some free drinks!

There was a spa located within the hotel which looked lovely and did promote good offers and was often busy with people going in and out. There is an indoor pool next door to the spa which looked quite nice too. There is also a small shop within the hotel where you can buy newspapers, snacks, water, lilos, sun lotion etc.

The major let down for us at the hotel was the food. The breakfast was good, there was a selection of bread, cereals, cooked breakfast and some fruit and yog. However the dinner menu really was not for us. I would rate the food as 3* star quality and some of the dishes just seemed odd. Every night was a theme night, such as greek or oriental but we only ate at the restaurant once as we were not keen on the menu and there was not as much variety as we have experienced in other 4* hotels. The pool bar food was pretty poor. On one occasion we were the only people that had ordered food yet it took them forever to bring it to us. I ordered a chicken toasted sarnie which was made up of mostly bread with a few tiny bits of chicken in it which tasted more like fish :/ I would recommend B&B for anyone unsure. We did eat lunch at a nice café called St.georgio which is just across the road from the hotel. The food was great value for money and good quality. There is an a la carte restaurant at the hotel which seemed popular and there are bars upstairs and downstairs within the lobby area with good, polite waiter service. The wifi in the lobby was very good but in the rooms it lacked but it was not an issue. One other issue was the dress code. Some days the heat was unbearable yet it was policy that men wear trousers in the evening for the restaurant and lobby, bar area etc. This seems a bit silly to me since my partner had smart pairs of shorts so it was not like he looked as though he had just come in from the pool yet women were allowed to wear shorts or skirts etc.

The location of the hotel was not as far out as some people were making out. It is not with the large majority of hotels such as Athena beach etc which are at the end of the harbour, however, there was a bus stop on the road outside hotel which cost 1.50 to the harbour or coral bay! And there are plenty of shops and restaurants along the way too! We ate at fat mammas (I recommend the fajitas!) which you can get the 615 bus to and you get way more food than what you pay for! The harbour is very pretty and there are lots of restaurants, cafes, bars, shops etc. We ate at a place called Hobos which when you arrive at the harbour, go left and follow to the end (5min walk) and you will see it! They also give you a 30% off discount voucher for your next visit! They offer burgers, chicken, pasta, steak etc.

If you are a couple looking for a few bars to go to in the evening we recommend bar street which is located right at the end of the harbour. You can either get the bus to the harbour (1.50 euro) then when you get there go right and walk down the promenade up to kfc..(5 min walk) by that time you will have a promoter asking you where you are going. If you continue straight, past kfc a little further you will see a starbucks on the opposite side of the road. Next to starbucks is a little cut off which leads you down to bar street. (30 second walk) We went to Flairs bar and linekers which both offer free shots and 241 drinks! If you did not want to get bus to harbour or back, taxis were 12 euros. I think buses stopped running after 12.30am.

All in all, aside from a few niggles, this Is a good, clean, welcoming, spacious and calm hotel with a variety of couples and families of all ages which provided a nice atmosphere.

We travelled to the St George hotel in paphos as a couple for 7 nights half board and enjoyed our stay however there are a few things that i cant help but mention are holding the hotel back slightly.

I will start the pro's of the hotel
- Pool is lovely, loads of sunbeds and are still likely to find decent ones mid day if needs be

- Staff are freindly, management make themselves known which is nice to see

- Rooms are smaller then expected however are comfortable, upgrade to a sea view room is a must!!! can safely say crows or birds did not wake me or keep me up, i think i saw one crow all holiday!

- Personally thought the location of the hotel was very good as it gave multiple travelling choices, it was only 1 euro 50 to get a bus to the harbour or coral bay beach and taxi's were reasonable if you fancied a late night along bar street. Location also offered various restaurants such as Hobo's cafe along the harbour (great burgers and Saint Gingey the cat is great company!) and Fat Mama's! (alot of food for reasonable prices!) and if you fancied lunch ST Giorgios across the road from the hotel is a welcome treat! so cant complain!

- Hotel is spotless clean! couldnt smell any sewage at the front of the hotel or anywhere???

- Beach the hotel is situated on is also very nice, offering various watersports! and isnt rough in the slightest!

- Good mix of young and old, couples & families!

- Drinks are reasonable prices!

- Gym is big

- Spa is big

- Animation team work hard with limited resources, are all very freindly and you must go and take part in some activities!

- good atmosphere with everyone talking to everyone

Cons

We travelled with thomson and thought the rep at the hotel was less then enthusiastic and only ever saw him sat in the office. We booked one excursion which was the VIP catamaran and although enjoyable it was pricey especially when the food was less then satisfactory on it.

Food at the hotel is simply average and although half board we only ate at the hotel in the evenings once which says it all, i really dont think this hotel is made to be all inclusive there isnt enough to do and like i say the food is average. Breakfast is probably the best part but i do think to myself it is quite hard to get breakfast wrong. Food in the evenings is cooked fine and is buffet which is meant to be themed however i really dont think 'european' cuts themed for me thats a pretty broad spectrum, food was warm with loads of choice however none of this went together! We have been more annoyed if we didnt take enough spending money to eat out every night!

Nearer the end of our stay the air con in our room was fairly noisey may have just been our room mind! it didnt keep us up however it may effect some people im sure it would have seen to if we had said something! anyway we quite happily slept by the pool in the day! :)

Pool bar staff sometimes favoured the all inclusive tenants and found prices tended to vary 10 cent here or there depending on the member of bar staff!

Couldnt get my head round that different parts of the hotel offered the same food but different if that makes sense we had a sandwich at the pool bar one lunch time and the food was totally different and priced fairly high. The food lunch menu for all inclusive (as we missed dinner on the first night due to late flight we were given a voucher for free lunch) was nicer and the hotel offered this buffet to half board and b&b for 15 euro if u fancied it anyway (again no point going all inclusive)

Restaurant in the evenings made men wear trousers and shoes which is fair enough i guess however this is not for me.

Not really the hotels fault but there are plenty of russians who are just ignorant really and dont like talking like the rest of the hotel, not a fan and effected atmosphere a bit.

Summary:

Had a very enjoyable stay, u must travel to further enjoy your holiday though! it isnt a all inclusive hotel, i would definitely go back but i would go back as bed and breakfast. If you are going to st george hotel in the future you will enjoy your stay! :)

Room Tip: Go sea view for some lovely sun rises and sets!

The hotel was better than expected and spotlessly clean. The staff were happy and polite, didn't begrudge serving you - (even at times when some guest would speak to the staff as though they were the lowest form of human being)
We had a couple of treatments in the spa whilst we were there and again thoroughly enjoyed these.
Prices of the drinks weren't over priced and we did find that we stayed in the hotel every night while we were there. The entertainment was acceptable and as with most holidays some nights the entertainment was better than others - we especially enjoyed Evans and Evans the magicians. Over all a really great holiday

We visited the hotel two weeks ago and our impressions are not the best. ok the hotel is renovated but with no quality service. no one cared. no drinks menu, the food was ok nothing special. our main problem was that i called to confirm our reservation 5 times telling me that everything is ok and they did not inform about the dress code in HB basis. they did not inform and could not enter the restaurant. we never had such a problem in 5 star hotels..its summer people wears comfortable clothes. they actually recommended giving us a long trouser!!! i spoke with friends about this and we are still laughing. I would never go back not only about this but mainly because of the low quality services, infrastructure does not facilitate movement within the hotel even if you go as a couple or as a family. whatever you do you have to use stairs all the time.they did not have kids club and they advertised it. please note that during our stay they did not clean the floor only the bath.. In general i do not recommend this hotel.

Spent a week at St George Hotel. The room was not one of the renovated rooms and was shabby and tired looking, as we were on floor 1 our sea/pool view was in fact only sea view as the pool was obscured by the restaurant roof.
The room was clean but on the small size.
The food was varied with a wide choice but the desire for the hotel to create a smart appearance in the evening does backfire on them. Men have to wear long trousers or will be refused entry to the restaurant - but women can wear anything. So men can be seen in ill fitting tracksuit bottoms, or mismatched jeans and trainers, and women can go in wearing flip fops and daisy duke denim shorts. Many men are refused entry yet women can wear what they like. My husband complained about the rule but was told that is how it was. He had to sit in the sweltering heat or would change after eating. This rule is rather annoying, make the women smart also. Even the staff comment that it is sexist but policy.
The pool was lovely, and the sea very nice, though there were a few fag ends around. Service was quick and efficient though we felt the prices rather steep. We manages to get loungers most days by 9am.
Entertainment was very patchy especially the animation team show which was dire.
There were lots of rules and regulations which took a couple of days to get into the swing of things, They even wanted me to leave a deposit for using the ping pong balls - I gave a withering look and just left my room number.
Would we go again - maybe

Room Tip: don't go on floor 1, make sure you have a renovated room. Men take trousers.

We visited this hotel on a Thompson Platinum holiday on 25/5 for 11 11 days. It was of the best holidays we have been on and we are well travelled. It is a 4 star + hotel with 5 star rooms. The hotel, the room, grounds, food and staff were all first class. The only downside was the lack of sunbeds which resulted in people reserving them.

We are looking to go back in September.

Jane and Reg

Room Tip: I understand that Thompson Platinum guests have the newly refurbished rooms which are superb.

I stayed here for two weeks with my girlfriend june26th-july10th and it was truly stunning. The layout and views within the hotel are amazing and I recommended strongly a sea view room. The rooms have just been renovated so as high quality as your get. The service was very good and we got the most out of all inclusive. Even though we ate out two nights just to break it up. The food that was there was mostly very good and if your not a fussy eater will not be a problem if you are then you may be limited to chips and nuggets as there is a lot of fish and meats. The beach bar was lovely in the evening and the sea was lovely. One review stating it was stormy and making out it was constant tidal waves crashing in, this was not the case it was relatively calm. The sun beds issue is a big one when there are very large groups within the hotel but this happens in most hotels. There are loads of sun beds in shade on the grass beach and by the pool which is recommended as it has the pool bar and the buffet restaurant close by. Also the issue regarding the sun beds towels was also a confusing one if yours was stolen like ours was you have to pay 20euro for another one, I recommend taking your own beach towels to put on the sun beds so you dont end up towels being nicked. Furthermore, be aware that the locals do creep in on weekends and late evenings but really are no trouble and are soon gone within an hour. For the harbour which I recommend highly its just a short bus ride or taxi and very cheap. I recommended fat mamas restaurant and choles Chinese if you want to eat out and if you fancy a boat trip try the wave dancer it's an amazing experience. The hotel entertainment was really the only disappointing bit to it, the animation team were fairly poor and lacked imagination with games. I think on tuesday nights they have a singer in the avacus bar who is brilliant. This hotel offers a lot and is for all ages young and old looking for a relaxing holiday with stunning weather, views and an all round experience i truly would return again.
