“Just Perfect in Pool Access room!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2014

Staying here at the moment and all is perfect, fab breakfast, staff, facilities, kayaking, and spa! So friendly and helpful, wonderful staff. Three great restaurants, very reasonable prices. Beautiful spa and professionals!! Prefer this to havoc manipulation on the beach fronts. Don't bother with Cheweng, tacky and overpopulated. Great romantic place to relax. Two thumbs up, there is no risk, perfect week away from winter. Minji

Room Tip: Choose a pool access room, lovely to tumble in to from your patio, ask for a room on the deep end po...

Stayed here for 10 days last year with my girlfriend.

It was a glorious time. Staff were fantastic, the atmosphere and grounds were superb. It really was a dream holiday location.

There was so room issues when we checked in and they upgraded to a very front pool access room. I really didn't want to leave here. The rooms, bathrooms, service, staff, activities, everything was first class.

Room Tip: Go for the front pool access rooms.

We recently stayed at Mai Samui for two weeks we had a great and relaxing time. The rooms were enormous and the shower was great and the bed was very comfortable. The pool was great especially when you're swimming and watching the sunset. The breakfast was excellent you get fresh squeezed juice or if you want bloody mary for breakfast is also available. The friendly staff greet you whenever you see them.We like to mention some of the out standing staff Zar Zar at breakfast, the chef Kongnapasit cooks beautiful omelet and the bell deck Sanya who was always happy and smiling and professional. Thanks for all the staff, they all done a very good job.We love to stay again specially to get away from the tourist area, hopefully we can get back soon.

Room Tip: A and B block, we prefer the top floor,a bit quieter and watch the sunset

This hotel has great grounds, pool and away from the touristy strips Thailand is home to. My boyfriend and I loved being able to relax on the sun loungers overlooking the sea. Admittedly if you are looking for a vast white beach with swimmable water, this is not the hotel for you; sand and seabed is rocky. However, we walked up just several metres and were able to paddle in lovely, clear water. We loved the remoteness of the hotel and as the resort was not very busy, we often felt like we were in our own private resort! The weather was amazing, extremely hot. In spite of the things we felt could be improved (see its below), the hotel provides a great base to explore other places and is a short distance away from the departure port for the Angthong marine park. The rooms and pool are lovely, the staff are friendly, and the environment is very relaxing.

Improvements: There were several things we noticed during our stay and feel that with improvements perhaps the hotel could justify the higher prices.
- In agreement with other guest experiences, check-in took far too long. I am not entirely sure what they were sorting out.
- Our room was dusty and glass and mirrors often smeary. These were not cleaned daily (Simple housekeeping which should really be attended to).
- Cocktails did not taste like they had alcohol in at all. Lots of other thai restaurants had an amazing choice of cocktails and non alcoholic drinks too like shakes and fresh juice that this hotel lacked.
- Beers are 150 baht regardless of happy hour promotions although you can find beers for 80 baht maximum anywhere else or 35 baht in supermarkets!
- For lunch we decided to order pizza after seeing the special promotion deal at the back of the menu; 250 baht for 1 pizza. On receiving the bill, we saw we had been charged the full 450 baht for each pizza. Apparently the promotion was in fact for a smaller pizza but this was not stated on the promotion. We pointed out that the difference in size was not stated in the promotion and although they finally agreed to charge us the price for the special promotion pizza, this was not dealt with in a very professional manner so just be careful to be exact in what you are ordering to avoid the difficulty of communicating concerns afterwards.
- In contrast to other restaurants, the menu is lacking a vast choice of traditional thai food and we got bored very early on with the food on offer in the hotel. Not to mention the price which was considerably more expensive than all the other places we visited. Beryl's bar has a great selection of food and is located about a 5 minute walk away from Mai Samui. We were eating a meal from there every day when we didn't feel like venturing too far from the hotel.
- Fine Dining was extremely disappointing; Food was bland and overpriced.
- We checked out at 12 but left the hotel at 2 and wanted to have a shower before leaving. We were directed to the gym showers; 1 shower and no soap to wash with, half full bottles of shampoo and conditioner and no shelves in the shower to put bottles on whilst showering. No hair dryer or bathrobe either. Simple things that you don't notice until they are not there.
- Generally taxis booked through the hotel were a fixed price regardless of the number of passengers, but booking a taxi to Nathon they decided to charge us per person.
Tried to charge us 1000 baht for a taxi to the airport although when travelling to the hotel we were charged 800. We organised a taxi privately which cost 770 baht. Have a look at Samui Taxi's website as I found them really easy to use and managed to get the taxi to the airport on the same day.

We had money to spend but felt that overall this hotel takes advantage of the remote location and charges higher prices for food and services that are really not in anyway superior in taste, selection or quality to other restaurants, so we made the conscious decision to outsource!

This place is beautiful. The pool is amazing. The rooms were enormous! We loved the bathroom. The bed was very comfortable. Wifi was good. We ate at all the restaurants and they were good as well. If you are looking for normal beach town experiences then this would not be the place for you. But if you are looking for exclusion and serenity then stay here. There are some restaurants a bit down the beach some though we didn't go that way. I would stay here again.

Had a great stay at Mai Samui with a slight hiccup.
Pros: Rooms are big for the amount you pay for (personal opinion). Everything you will expect from a hotel is there (toiletries, complimentary tea/coffee). Cleanliness is there. Breakfast spread was adequate and staff are very friendly and always checking if you had a great stay. Valued at abt SGD 300 for 2 nights incl breakfast was a steal i suppose.
Cons: If you need an electric kettle, then i would suggest you bring your own. Had rusted one in the room and doesnt shut off automatically.
Location is pretty far off the main attractions. However, if you rent a car it will all work out. Afterall, its a small island.
On my last day, electricity was cut off for approx 10mins due to some power trip. Guess this kind of things happens once in awhile.
All in all, if you just wan to relax in the resort, this is a good place to go.

We had a lovely time at the Mai Samui resort but it depends what you are looking for!

Pros: lovely oasis in a remote area! beautiful green garden with palm trees and flowers everywhere! fantastic room with superb toiletries provided, free coffee and tea in the room with fresh cookies every day, drinking water as well. Friendly, attentive and helpful stuff even if a bit too slow at check in.
Huge pool area!

Cons: the resort is far away from the villages. The shuttle bus was only during the day when it's too hot to the shopping so you need a taxi or rent a bike to go to town after your beach day.
Massage at the spa is way to expensive compared to the city. Even if you rent a bike you would have a better deal!
The beach was a bit of a downside for me as I could not go to the sweet water pool, only Salty water. Basically there is no real beach, you have to walk far to get into the water and it is not clean.

Net-net: amazing place for honeymooners and for people wanting peace and quiet!
