We came across Yiannis by chance when driving round the mountain villages and decided to take pot luck on a meal.
It was a wonderfully lucky choice! The setting was beautiful with the tables in a traditional courtyard. The service was friendly, prompt and attentive with Yiannis himself talking with all the tables. There were clearly many regulars there, both British ex-pats, those with holiday homes and locals, but as tourists we were made welcome.
We had the best beef stifafo we found anywhere in Cyprus and a delicious pork dish.
It was so good we booked to go back for the weekly Tuesday night of live music and dancing, which was as authentic and real as all the other taverns we visited were karaoke and artificial.
That evening the place was packed, mainly with locals filling the long communal tables. We had the meze which was excellent, the local village wine (for my wife as I was driving :( ) which was cheap and good. An evening that will live in the memory as the real Cyprus. Highly recommended!
