“Our most relaxing holiday for a long time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2012 for a stay in May 2012

Just returned home from a wonderful week at Villa Maria. I don’t remember coming back from a holiday feeling so relaxed for a very long time!

The villa itself is spacious, well maintained, well equipped and situated in a quiet position on the edge of a little working village which is not overrun by tourists. Kathikas has several good and varied restaurants, friendly shopkeepers and an unhurried pace. It’s situated within easy reach of Paphos to the south and Polis on the north coast, so if you want a change from peace and quiet, or for entertainment in the evening, it’s not far to drive and the roads are good.

The thing we enjoyed most about the villa was without doubt the 10m x 5m swimming pool. The water was cool in mid-May but the sun was warm so we dipped in and out often. We even swam in the rain. Charming aspects of the pool were the swallows that swooped down to drink from it and the lizards that sunbathed on the wall around the pool area.

Inside, the villa is well equipped with dishwasher, washing machine, large fridge-freezer, TV and computer with Internet connection. This is very handy as there is little coverage for mobiles there. Although the rooms are functional rather than luxurious, they are all a good size with lots of storage/hanging space and there are plenty of bath/shower rooms. Views over hills and vineyards from the master bedroom and its terrace are outstanding. A covered terrace, again with lovely views, off the living area is excellent for dining. The pool terrace has a large barbeque and plenty of tables and seats for eating under the stars.

There’s space for parking several cars and the ground floor bedroom has a ramp from the car park for wheelchairs, which gives access to the whole of the ground floor and dining terrace. There is no wheelchair access to the pool terrace though, as there are steps down to it.
Although I'd recommend the villa for families with children, they do need to be able to swim as the pool is very accessible and deep.

There are plenty of places to explore in the vicinity; beaches, harbours, villages, towns and for us, best of all and right on our doorstep, the National Park of the Akamas Peninsular where we discovered some of the most beautiful scenery we’ve seen anywhere in the Mediterranean. It’s real walking country but some of it is accessible with a 4 wheel drive vehicle.

Our hosts live on site and were always helpful. Savvas also runs The Farmhouse, a restaurant just above the villa, serving excellent food and he will deliver takeaways to the villa if you prefer. If you want a simple life just enjoying the villa, swimming pool and very good food in the village, it would be feasible to stay there without a car. We found the atmosphere there so seductive that there were quite a few days when the hire car stood unused in its parking space while we swam, read, ate, drank the excellent local wine, walked a little and relaxed – things we never seem to have time to do at home.

Although we were just a couple enjoying a huge amount of space, the villa would be perfect for extended families, having four double bedrooms and an annex that sleeps a further 4 people downstairs.

“Relaxing village holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2012 for a stay in June 2010

This villa is an excellent choice for a family or large party with the option of 4 or 6 bedrooms. Inside is open plan with a large kitchen, TV with numerous channels and a computer with internet connection. The bedrooms are all spacious with an ensuite and 4 poster bed in the main one. There is also a safe for your valubles. Air con is available but incurs an extra cost. Outside is a large pool with plenty of sun loungers, a BBQ and large dining table for the whole family. The village of Kathikas is up in the hills away from the heat and bustle of the coastal resorts which are only a 15 minute drive away. Village life is slow and relaxed and the car can be left at home in the evening as there are are several restaurants and a couple of bars within walking distance in fact Savvas's restaurant, The Farmyard, is all of 30 metres away. He also has a bar in the village where you can keep abreast of the football at home on sky. If you want clubbing and karaoke this is not for you but if you want a laid back relaxing holiday you could not find better and we should know as we have been 3 times.

“Tranquil, relaxing and nothing was too much trouble from our hosts Rachel and Savvas, villa was superb.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2012 for a stay in April 2011

Excellent location away from the hussle and bussle. However,Coral Bay only 15 minutes away for night life. Villa in Kathikas was excellent, clean, comfortable with outdoor facilities for own bar be cue and swimming pool. Restaurant on site ran by Rachel and Savvas was also excellent good variety of food with ample servings. Village was a lovely place for walks with the locals making us feel very welcome. One of the best holidays we have had in along time.

“Lovely, spacious well presented villa”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2011 for a stay in October 2011

We were a family party of 10 ranging from 5 to 78 years old , there was so much room for every one to spread out , the pool was nice but a bit cold maybe that was because it was October.
We loved the traditional Cypriot village which had some nice tavernas.Rachael and Savvas were very helpful and welcoming and the Sunday buffet in their restaurant was excellent.
