“Interesting historical aspect to this house”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2014

The house itself is nothing spectacular… what makes it interesting is the story behind George Washington's visit to Barbados. The tour guide was amazing! Well informed, passionate about Barbados and its history, and willing to answer as many questions as you could throw at him. The place is very nicely preserved and well maintained. It was a lovely break from the sun and the beach!

“Interesting Colonial History”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2014

The intro is a goodish short film about George Washington's stay in Barbados as a young man. The house itself has been pretty well completely rebuilt in the last few years, and may not bear much resemblance to what young George and his brother stayed in. It was a bit basic if compared to a National Trust property in England, but the guide was friendly (everyone is on Barbados!) and informative - though curious that he talked about European and African 'settlers', which was a novel view of the iniquities of slavery. Quite an interesting museum on the first floor. Cafe had been closed, probably for lack of custom, as there were very few visitors, which is a pity. We had an interesting hour - much more interesting indeed that Bridgetown itself.

“Dinner with George”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2014

We booked dinner with George on the internet prior to visiting Barbados for 6 weeks in Jan/Feb.
They organised a car to collect us from our apartment and another couple from the Hilton.
Upon arrival drinks were served and the 30 (max ) guests were able to meet their fellow dinner guests. The house is candle lit and all staff are dressed in period costumes, which creates a good atmosphere. A short guided tour of the house is given before dinner is served. Music Handel, is played by a small stringed trio and they played very well . There is one long dining table for 30 guests , with George Washing to , Dr Karl, seated in the centre. This gentleman was very knowledgeable and in god humour, giving a very entertaining insight into George Washington's visit to Barbados and indeed his only visit outside America,
The food and wine are both interesting and enjoyable. This is a super evening and we can thoroughly recommend it .

“A bit dissapointed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2014

An awful lot has been made of George Washington's very brief stay on Barbados. The house on the whole is worth a visit but we were less than impressed when the staff dropped us like a stone because the Swedish Ambassador had made an unscheduled visit. We had paid, i am sure she didn't. Not impressed with that.

“Dinner with George- learning can be fun!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2014

We attended in January after booking via email. I was lucky enough to sit next to George himself. My American history is not the best but under close scrutiny from my fellow American guests George was a mine of information and had some lovely stories about his experiences whilst on Barbados- even to British ears! We had some bubbly on arrival before going though to a beautifully lit dining room. The food was I think indicative of the time and I enjoyed it, but the evening is about the ambience and the history.....It is a different experience . The table was filled by tourists and locals alike. I was particularly impressed by the string quartet who provided a lovely back drop. We went as a couple, but I would think it would be great for a four or even a six.
We pushed the boat out and ordered champagne instead of the wine which was included and this was reasonably priced. We noticed it was reviewed last week in the Telegraph so book it up now!!!!
