“A bit of a squeeze”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2013

Four of us on a golf break in the Gower stayed at Norton House. Two had single rooms, and I and a colleague shared a twin-bedded room, no 10. It was on the first floor. It was clean and well appointed but there was just not enough room. We were told that these rooms had just been refurbished, but this must have been done by someone who has not travelled much. The en suite bathroom had been constructed within the room rectangle. It was adequate, but had squeezed the hanging space in the room to a 11 inch rail, with a rail of 18 ins on which no items could hang. However there was a large table in an alcove which was hardly relevant and could have been used for clothes. The beds were comfortable, but left little space between them or the walls.
The staff were friendly and efficient. There is a large dining room (and another being painted) but no lounge area other than a few chairs in the small bar. There is a good car park.
The hotel is well located, but it did not make enough care in designing their rooms to provide a comfortable or efficient room. We ate breakfast there, which was OK, and had one dinner in for which the food was quite reasonable, though the menu seemed limited .

Room Tip: Get one on your own, or if 2 ask to look. we saw through open doors much bigger and better designed...

We recently stayed at this hotel for a few days, and were generally very pleased with this hotel.
The food was excellent, with a good choice and reasonalby priced, especially the 'Early Bird' menu, and the staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful.

The new owners though need to pay some attention to the rooms. We had a double on the first floor annexe. It was very clean and tidy, reasonalbe quality furnishings and with a good supply of consumables. But it had a tiny tv with the sound quality of a 1970's portable radio, (and although digital didn't appear to recieve any radio stations), indaequate supply of coat hangers and no water glasses.Wallpaper anaoraks shouldn't look too closely at the pattern match either!

Overall good food and service, with OK rooms.....but not for more than a few days,

We held my daughters wedding reception in the conservatory the tables were laid out beautifully and they added little extra's, the staff could not do enough for us, the food was tasteful and we were given a good choice, both daytime & evening went without a hitch we were so impressed we booked for my 60th birthday which was on a Sunday we booked for 35 of us to have Sunday lunch again the food and choice was excellent, although there were other diners in the conservatory they allowed us to decorate the room, and we stayed there until early evening.

Visited here with a party for lunch, to celebrate Glamorgan WI 90th Anniversary. Greeted in a friendly manner by staff, and shown to our table. The rooms we ate in looked lovely, with the tables adorned with alternate flower arrangements and candles. The two course lunch had been pre-booked, it was delicious, and freshly cooked. Too full to order a dessert, but the coffee was lovely, with cups being re-filled.
Overall, a wonderful occasion, in a lovely setting, good food, and great company. Would certainly book to go again, as a family.

Stayed overnight here after evening wedding party. Staff friendly, especially lady who greeted us at reception. We stayed in room 3, which next to bridal suite was supposed to be next best room available. Room was spacious with 4 poster bed and small tv and en suite bathroom. The room smelled of paint (I think the bathroom door had recently been glossed). Bed comfy and clean. The shower over the bath was horrendous, you either risked 3rd degree burns or frostbite! The bath water ran hot so that was the other option.
The food was a hog roast which was really nice, served with roast potatoes and coleslaw, although the pork was a small portion. Breakfast was also nice, usual fare of full welsh or choice of porridge ,cereals etc. also the waitress was really friendly.
The property itself has seen better days, with frayed threadbear carpets in places and dodgy decor. Unfortunately a guest who was rather elderly fell on an unlit stairway and paramedics had to be called. She had sustained a fracture to her shoulder, and this was very upsetting. The staff were apologetic but nevertheless the faulty light should have been attended to.
The location of this hotel is very close to the beautiful seafront and you feel a lot more could be done to improve the facilities and faded appearance of this lovely property.

Room Tip: Room 3 was spacious , but shower was dreadful.

The old man had his 80th birthday celebration here, with a group of 40-odd people. The tables were laid out on arrival exactly as we'd requested, and we were all greeted with friendly welcomes upon arrival.

A number of us (including the host and immediate family) are vegetarians - this was not a problem in the least. We had a decent set of options, and ended up sharing some dishes, to give each other the pleasure of sampling. The portions were certainly generous enough.

They accommodated the musical talent we had arranged, and the entire catering was just fine - each table received their meals swiftly. Each table in turn seemed to be served at once - nobody was left twiddling their cutlery. The staff were efficient and unobtrusive, there was no need for follow-up requests for water, and so on, nobody was pushed to either finish or give up their plate, but items were cleared almost unnoticed once finished.

When it came time for the old man to make his final speech to the group of friends and family, the staff quietly closed all the doors to our room, and ensured there would be no interruptions.

The setting was lovely, the food great, and the ambiance - particularly given the time of year - spot on. But the staff were the best part of it, they facilitated an important evening for us flawlessly. They have my gratitude.
