Owner description: At Hafrsfjord we find the monument Swords in Rock. It was here Harald Harfagre fought a battle that united Norway into one kingdom in 872 AD. The monument represents peace, unity and freedom. The Viking swords' hilts are modelled on swords found in various parts of the country. The monument was made by Friz Roed (1928-2002) and unveiled by King Olav in 1983. The monument can be reached by bus nr. 29 from the centre of Stavanger.

“Just a monument”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2013

It's hard to get to via public transportation if you don't read Norwegian and have someone with you who knows where you're going and what buses to take. Wasn't really with the time save for some fun photos.

“Scenic, popular Viking monument”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2012

I live nearby and pass these daily. In afternoon sunlight they can look majestic and hint to battles of legend a millennium ago. On a clear winter's day they're just a bit glorious.

“Great place to take kids”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2012

There is not a lot here other than the swords but if you have kids that love vikings and medieval stories they will love to see these.

It also makes for really great pictures.

If just going to see them I would go at sunset!

“Stunning!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

It's located quite far from the city, so you need to take a bus to get there, but it's worth it! These three swords near the fjord are really incredible and impressive. I personally recommend going there during the sunset to catch the most terrific views.

“Nice view”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2012 via mobile

Nice view across the water. Recommend the bike trail. Read about the history before visiting as little information is at the site.
