“Awesome place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2013

Best beaches in the world! Great scenery from the boldering beaches and the high trees in HøgJæren! Also, jæren is the place were you can get BaconFarse, a local dish consisting of just meat in a bun! Very good!

“Hiking on the coast of Jæren”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2013

The 100 km coastline of Jæren (Jaeren) in southwestern Norway consists of long sandy beaches, pebbles and rocks. The beaches are among the finest in the world and there are plenty of opportunities for hikes in scenic surroundings. I have been hiking up and down here for some time, so check out the suggestions on this page: http://sandalsand.travellerspoint.com/512/

“Trust me, im a local.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2013 via mobile

I live here, and i love it. Simple as that, i'm a local and i love the landscape.The locals are friendly if you treat them with respect. Be the guest in our land.
You'll need to brace yourself for the epic nature. It is a stunning scenary. The view from high ground is awesome.

Jæren is a geographial defiened part of Norway. The area is not an own region, but got the name from the proud locals. You can discover a high quantity of small farms and most of the land is used for farming. Its unique because of the flatness and good farmland so close to the sea, witch you cant find anywhere in Norway but here.

Us Norwegians have a saying; "where no man could believe its possible to settle". It means we want to go and live far and wide, and where no one could possible think of living.

Backpacking and hiking?;
Sometimes i bring a friend and we put on our backpacks and we go hiking. We just start from my house and we just walk until we find a nice spot where we can have some beer, coffe, food or just a "kvikk lunch" ( something you must have when hiking in norway, ask any store).

In my experince; to walk for a few hours and end up on a big hill top, because we technically dont have mountains, its rewarding to see the sun, sea and the flat lands that goes on and on.

Going by car;
Take your car and drive south from Stavanger. Drive as close to the sea at all times for the best view.
Do this in the summer and if you like to try something even more epic. Take a drive at the small extra long roads. As long as there is asphalt all the way and its on your gps, youll be fine. If you get lost you can just drive the same way back.

Beaches;
Want to visit some small, quiet beach? Try Vigdel-beach (its the closest for me and the most hidden from everyone), usually only locals who go here and there is toilets at the parking space. Dont tell anyone about it, because then it wouldnt be a small and quiet one anymore.
If you want the bigger beaches; try Ølberg, Hellestø, Sele and Sola- strendene.
Ølberg got a kiosk withthe best fries and best icecream in the summer. Sola is said to be one of europes most beautiful beach.
The beaches all have parking but it can be hard to find its your first time. Look at a map before you travel, and the locals wont get mad if you park wrong.
Its worth the trip if you have time to spare. The sand-dunes are a nice cover if you want to stay private.

In general the single bad thing is the wind. The roads can be small and bumpy from time to time. Its usually sunny, but watch out for quickly shifting weather. Be prepared for everyingb tho.
Also worth noticing, the dialect are very very different from the stavanger one. (Stavanger is very formal and Jærsk is very deep and unfirmal)

Hope you love it here, ask me anything if you like! Contact; klingsheim2(at)gmail.com

“Amazing nature!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2012

Windy, isolated, cold, dramatic, beautiful! Take the national tourist route and drive along the coast. Remember to bring your camera and stop at the sights.
