Owner description: A Dynamic Museum for a Dynamic IndustryNorwegian Petroleum Museum is a museum for everyone. Its exhibits explain how oil and gas are created, disovered and produced, and what they are used for. The museum also provides informastion about technological advances and the way petroleum influences Norwegian society. Original objects, models, films and interactive exhibits illustrate everything from everyday life offshore to technology and dramatic incidents. The curious cat Petro serves as a guide through the museum's science centre. The museum was designed by architects Lunde & Løvseth, and is an attraction in itself. Its architecture is a scenographic interpretation of the Norwegian bedrock, the open coastal landscape and the offshore oil installations. Architechtural reviews have said that there is hardly a building in Norway which signals its function as obviously as the Norwegian Petroleum Museum. The museum was opened in 1999.

“Surprisingly Intresting......”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2013

Visited in April 2013 as part of a cruise to Norway. We took our children aged 6 & 8 to this museum, which was really fascinating. There is lots of interactive things to do as well as large models of various oil rig structures. We tried on a survival suite - a very hot experience!
The children thought the hands on oil platform was brillant including the escape net situated outside.
The museum deals with both the engineering of oil extraction and also the effect on the environment. We really did enjoy this museum.

“the history of Norweigan oil - very educational”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2013

A great interactive museum that is extremely educational – there is even a soft play oil platform for the kids to play on. You will also learn that Norway is the most responsible petroleum producer on the planet – oil is not perfect but the Norwegians could teach the world many things.

“Interesting exploration of the oil field”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013 via mobile

Went to this museum as my husband deals with the industry. While he definitely spent more time on the exhibits than I did, I still found the museum very interesting. The museum is well laid out and explains the ways and whys of oil drilling, both good and bad.
