“First perhaps, but not up to date”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2013

Apparently the first hotel in Stavanger (a cabbie told me). Decent standard but too many small irritating things to put me off:
- They don't open checkin before 3pm. Frustrating when you arrive at 1pm.
- The restaurant isn't open for you to have a meal/drink while you wait for the checkin (they could have earned some easy money on me there).
- Closest restaurant (perhaps except Rica Forum hotel restaurant) is a taxi ride away, so you might as well head down town (as I had to).
- When I finally checked in, I was told there were no more rooms in the category I had booked (double room). Receptionist: 'Would you like a single room at the same rate?' Not really.
- Asked to get a double room the next day, but still not available. I could get a single room rate upon check out though (which didn't happen).
- Bath room was a remnant from their 70's and 80's modernisation (yes, both). Had to sit askew on the WC as the bathroom sink is in the way.
- The bar closes at 10.30pm! When back from an evening meal in Stavanger, the barman was closing, referring us to the reception mini bar (?!), where we could buy a beer, and go back to the bar and get a glass from the barman and watch the remainder of the football match..

The list goes on. On the positive side, the free wifi worked with not too much hassle and breakfast was pretty good.

I won't be going back.

My husband and I stayed at the First Hotel Alstor for our 4 night trip in Stavanger. We found it perfect for us. It was cozy and we slept like babies. I loved the hotel decor and breakfast was yummy. It is about a 30 minute walk to the city, but my husband and I love walking so it was great! Plus, there is a lovely park across the street from the hotel that you can walk through. You can take the park most of the way to the city.

The bus from the airport stops near the hotel (10 minute walk) and actually, we got there at midnight and the bus driver actually dropped us off right infront of our hotel which was quite nice of him.

The staff was decent. Not overly friendly, but still helpful when we needed anything.

I would definitely recommend this hotel and for sure, stay there again!

Room Tip: We stayed in the cheapest room which was on the bottom floor. It was a bit noisy sometimes due to tr...

We stayed for three nights, On a family summer trip, The place was very nice to stay and a great value for money, The staff were very friendly, The breakfast included in the price was great, there are no other resturants around and the dinner facilities is limited according to weekdays/ends. The hotel is located obout 3 KM from town but a nice sorrounding, enjoyed the walking trip to the city centre along the lake. And there is the art museum near by if you are interested. Any way thanks to First Hotls Alstor for the Hotel-Home (in my daughters classification) for the overall service.

The hotel is located out of the city, around 3 km away, and it dosen't have anything around, no restaurants, nothing, so you need a car yes or yes.
The room is simple but clean. The size is OK. The toilet was small, long but narrow. Breakfast was OK, normal.
Price is OK comparing with Norway average, 93 eur 2 people/night
expensive if we compare with other countries.

First Hotel Alstor is a nice hotel which provides good facilities and friendly helpful staff. It can be a bit expensive but Stavanger in general is not cheap. The location of the hotel is not ideal as it takes 10 mins to walk to the nearest bus stop (a big roundabout called Tjensvollkrysett with frequent buses) and it takes another 10 min to go to the city centre by bus. You do however find nearby a beautiful lake and the Kunstmuseum.

The room was comfortable, spacious, clean with free WiFi although we were puzzled by the position of the TV which is on the side wall so quite odd to watch it when you are resting on the bed. We were disappointed there was no hairdryer, ironing board, iron or safe in the room and horrified - if it's true - to see that coffee and tea in the bedroom is not complimentary (there was a price list on the desk).

Staff were friendly and helpful and we greatly enjoyed breakfast which has a good selection of items and drinks. Pity that pastires such as pains au chocolat and croissants were not available.

Altogether a nice hotel with good points and a few negative items to address to make it even better. We would recommend this hotel and stay there again in the future should we go back to Norway.

Frst Hotel Alstor offers some very good deals of which we took advantage and therefore our circumstance allows me to say this was value for money. For the older and less fit among us the location is not the most comvenient and the bus stops nearest the hotel are out of service so a walk to the large pedestrian roundabout called Tjensvollkrysett finds a bus stop with a regular service from Kolumbus buses to the city centre (5-10 minute intervals) and on the other side of the road half hour Flybussen to the airport.
We did walk to Stavanger and the Arkaeologisk Museum. The hotel is also near a beautiful nature reserve and lake called Mostvanet a very pleasant stroll with the Art Gallery as an added bonus.
The top points of the Hotel were the breakfast and the polite, helpful and good natured staff. Breakfast has such a wide variety of choice and is tasty and very substantial. It is also eclectic with bacon and egg among the choices with which you can serve yourself.
Staff in reception were helpful in all ways and helped us to get orientated especially regarding location and transport links. It is difficult to thank them enough.
We were there for five days and the only point I felt could be improved would be to have had a change of towels at some stage during our stay, other than that I highly recommend this Hotel and I would be very happy to stay there in the future.

Room Tip: This hotel offers some good deals so do a little research to find the best one for you as arriving w...

We stayed for three nights while visiting Stavanger. We found a good deal for this hotel and it was really good value for the money! We booked a superior room, it was a big room, with a desk and to comfortable chairs, bathtub and a balcony. It would have been nice with a bigger table to sit at. The room itself was upgraded and nice but the bathroom was really outdated. It wasn't a big deal for us though as long as the room was clean.

The staff was friendly and breakfast good. They have free parking. A good choice if you are exploring Stavanger and surroundings. The walk to the city center is nice took us about 25-30 min. I also once took the bus (about 5 min).

Dear sonja026,

Thank you very much for staying with us and taking your time to write this great review.

I am so glad that you liked the room after the renovation. Regarding our bathrooms we have upgraded about 20% of them so far, and we a plan to more of them until all are done. In the meantime we ensure that the bathrooms are clean and that they work well for our guests.

It's such a pleasure for me personally when my amazing staff is recognized by our guests in the review. They often do all the difference and I know many of our guests come back due to the personal service they experience at the hotel. So I would like to thank you for staying with us, and for mentioning my staff in the review. I hope we will see you back at our hotel in the future.
