“Trade off: Very hot and small rooms, but in a great location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2012

My husband and I stayed here with our 10 month old baby for 4 nights in August 2012. We paid approx £500 for 4 nights.
The rooms are very small and when they put a travel cot in our room for the baby, we could barely move around and were having to jump over things to get from one side of the room to the other.
The rooms were also exceptionally hot. There was no aircon (despite what they say on the website) and when we asked for a fan they were not willing to provide one. There was one small window which we could open, but as you are very close to the bars/nightlife downtown the noise was too much for us and the baby if we left it open at night. Everyone woke up in the morning very hot and sweaty.
BUT - The hotel was in a great location, right next to everything you want to see as a tourist and the staff were very friendly. The free breakfast was really good too.
There is no restaurant or bar at this hotel, so apart from serving breakfast in the morning, you need to go out to get a drink or something to eat.
The hotel is currently undergoing external refurbishment and our room smelt of paint fumes and chemicals the whole time. There was also loud banging and hammering all day long. We were not warned about this at the time of booking which is disappointing.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2012

Small, cozy hotel, great location, great breakfast, everything was wonderful. Not the most luxurious hotel I have stayed at, but clean and perfectly adequate, with coffee and tea in the rooms and an environmental approach to the changing of towels (which is always a big plus!). Stayed here for the 8th Stavanger Tattoo Convention and loved it. Would recommend it to anyone!

4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2012

I was a little unsure about booking this hotel after seeing a couple of the reviews, but I'm very glad we did. It looks exactly like the professional photos - nice, clean, boutique-feeling hotel, with decent-sized and very clean rooms, a nice lobby, and a nice buffet breakfast area/library. The one thing that doesn't match is the slightly dingy photo of the front of the hotel - it doesn't show you how the hotel is actually right in the middle of the cobbled downtown shopping area and is just steps away from the historic fire tower, the harbor, and several tasty restaurants (or, if you want to save money, a grocery). Very charming area and super convenient. We found the hotel staff to be perfectly friendly. There is free internet in the lobby via laptop and free wifi with no time limits in the room. Breakfast is not lavish but is plenty. Our room looked just like the photo of the double room - again not lavish, but modern and clean with comfortable bed, cable tv, and small but clean bathroom (good shower and heated floors a nice touch). We had no problems with noise from outside or from our neighbors. As for price, the fact is that hotels in Stavanger are very pricey, but the Havly hotel was no more or less than the others and I think we got a decent deal. We would stay there again in a sec.

I wouldn't stay at this hotel again, the prices are too high for what they offer.
Short bed. Small room. Dated. Doesn't give you a wow....

The room was ok. Nice heated floor in the bathroom. The bedside lights didn't work, and there seemed to be one lightswitch for all the lights, so to get a more ambient 'reading my kindle before sleep' i had to individually turn off lights. To be fair to the hotel, I didn't give them the chance to sort this out as it was late at night, and I just wanted to sleep off a rather large dinner!
The beds were singles and a bit short for me, but comfortable mattresses so I got a good night's sleep. Rooms were a bit dated in my opinion.
Front staff were friendly when I checked in and out.
Breakfast was nice with lots of choice.
Location is good in the old part of Stavanger.
