This hotel is located on "Innlandet", the most well preserved part of Kristiandsund, the city center is across the strait.
The hotel opened in 2009, so it is quite new. The rooms are quite special, with visible beams and in the style of an old warehouse, while the interior and bath is quite modern.
The location is good if you want to have a look at the oldest part of Kristiansund, and there are a couple of restaurants nearby. If you want to go to the city center, you need to walk over the bridge (15 minutes' walk?) or take the Strair Crossing Boat (which is nice).
The hotel is child friendly and has "Thon Junior" rooms which we ordered. Our daughter got a "goody bag" upon arrival, and the room had a sleeping couch that had been made up for her. There was a small playing area in a corner of the dining room, and they advertised with a fun breakfast for children. This seemed to be limited to some litago yoghurts. As the hotel is situated on the docks, and there are no fences preventing children to fall into the sea, the hotel is otherwise note very child friendly. The automatically opening doors that lead onto the docks are not helping either.
Despite a poster outside the hotel promising "à la carte" eating, the only eating option was a summer buffet at 300 NOK per adult and 65 NOK per child. That's a pretty hefty price for an evening snack, and the only other eating option while the child is asleep is ordering pizza. On the positive side, we were allowed to grab some evening food for the 2-year old for free.
I'd definately consider this hotel again, but plan ahead for food and transport.
