I'm sure you must have seen the famous view of Ålesund, with the city straddling the ocean and looking ethereally beautiful. Well, this is how you get to see it with your own eyes.
From the Town Park, there is a path which takes you to the foot of Mount Aksla. You can then walk up the 413 steps to the Fjellstua viewpoint, which is where those famous photographs are taken. We didn't find the 413 steps partcularly daunting and the views as you ascent are delightful. However, it is also possible to reach the viewpoint by either car or by taking the city train.
At the top, the view is simply stunning. We spent quite a long time there as it was so breathtaking that we could hardly believe our eyes. How wonderful to see it in real life in all its glory.
In case you are in need of refreshments after your journey to the top of Aksla, there is a café at the top. Although we didn't eat there, the food did look rather nice. You can sit outside and drink in the view along with your cup of coffee.
I can't recommend this view highly enough. It's something that you simply have to do during your visit to the beautiful city of Ålesund.
