“Good food, bad logistics”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013 via mobile

We were four people ordering two seafood plates and two "today's three course". The food was good, however the dishes were not coordinated, so we ended up with a lot of waiting/ eating in turns. The waiter was blaming kitchen capasity, even though the place only was quarter full....

“Superb!!!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013

We were a party of 4 visiting Bergen, at the end of June and we had a lovely lunch here on the beautiful terrace. The lunch menu was small but will satisfy everyone. My partner and I ordered the mussels in a whitewine sauce that were fresh, tasty and just to die for! The bread that accompanied the mussels was delicious. The others in our party ordered the Shellfish platter and they said that it tasted as good as it looked (which was spectacular!) The wine was matched perfectly with our lunch, recommended by the waiter. For dessert we all ordered creme brulee which was delightful. Our meal was just superb and couldn't be bettered anywhere in Norway, high praise indeed, but well justified. To complïment the meal the service was perfect - and delivered by friendly, efficient staff. For those looking for a restaurant in Bergan you must try Sjomatkirken, it is very clean, up on the 3rd floor, beautiful decor, nice ambiance and very good view of the fish market and stunning harbour. If you are visiting the city centre and like tasty, fresh food, then make no mistake- money well spent!!!!!!

“One more delicious salmon dinner before leaving Norway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2013

The hotel staff member recommended that Sjomatkirken would be a great place for us to have dinner after having been on the Hurtigruten cruise. It was our last night in Norway and we were not yet ready to transition to "ordinary" food, wanting something special. The restaurant is right on the wharf in the middle of the action in Bergen/Bryggen, up on the third floor. We had an outdoor table overlooking the harbor on a clear and cool evening.

We chose the prix fixe special for the week, and that gave us the benefit of having a memorably delicious meal and making it a bit more affordable. The chef was willing to make a substitution on our starter plates. Wait staff were attentive, friendly, and neither cloying nor hovering. Erikissimos' review on this page says what I would like to say.

Folks at the next table were having difficulty making decisions about what to order. I heard the server patiently help the 4 of them sort out their options and tailor their meals to their desires. For example, one person preferred to have a salad with lobster. She was able to choose her own lobster from the fresh fish case near the entrance of the restaurant, and seemed to be delighted that she had gotten just what her palate was craving that night.

So did I.

“Excellent sea food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2013

We were looking for a place to eat and asked the receptionist in our hotel. She suggested trying the food in this restaurant.
The location was great and the view stunning. We sat on the balcony and had a view of the fish market and the harbour.
The waitress was very helpful since she chose the the perfectly matched wine and she served us on time.
We had the walnut marinated salmon with scallops and potato cream for starters and the steamed halibut with broccoli cream and sauce vierge, which was an experience for me.The food was tasty and very well presented.
The atmosphere was relaxing and we had a wonderful evening.
I definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Bergen!

“Blessed by fruits of the sea”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2013

In the very heart of Bergen you will find one of the most recommended restaurants in town. Beautiful view from the third floor both to the harbour and the fish market. There are tables inside as well as on the balcony. Friendly and attentive staff. Food is fresh, tasty, deliciously composed and well presented. I have been there several times. This is a far better alternative than being hustled into one of the many stands at the market where food is expensive, quality low and sitting comfort missing.
After having tried both no sane person will go for any other option than Sjømatkirken.
During lunch-hour "today's catch" is recommended, being reasonbly priced and you normally get very good fish, sometimes, shark or even lobster. The restaurant is nicely decorated.
