“Charming place in Bergen”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2012

Stayed here for a couple of nights to explore the city. The room was in the second building across the road and was very clean and spacious. Every staff member we encountered was friendly and welcoming and were able to suggest some excellent places to visit for authentic Norwegian and Swedish food (Pingvinen and Naboen). The breakfast in the morning had some good variety but would have been easier if things were better labeled. The trek up the hill to the hotel is a bit rough, but the hotel staff were able to suggest better routes to take to avoid the massive hill once you start to know your way around. Overall, a nice place to stay in a beautiful city.

The Hotel Park has a lot of charm. It is small, historic and well designed. My room was quite modern, but the public spaces were quite unique and stylish.

The location is OK. Take into consideration that it requires a certain walk from the Hotel to the fish market area, and that the Hotel lies on top of a small hill. Nothing serious but be prepared to walk a little, in rainy but lovely Bergen.

Breakfast was very nice, but a bit crowded. Having free coffee, tea, brownies and cookies was a nice gesture, and the staff was very warm and kind, always willing to help.

To sum up, a good experience in an original and charming hotel. Will come back.

Just returned from two nights in Bergen at the hotel park. I initially booked this through bookings.com but discovered that if I reserved it through the fjord pass system I received a much better rate. The hotel is well located up a rather steep hill - this was the only negative but only a minor one. We found everything to our satisfaction. Beds super comfortable with soft downy comforters. Our room was 115 in the annex which I would recommend. Very quiet and no strong light to keep you awake during the long summer days. Don't expect spacious reception areas - this is a quaint conversation of a listed building, but the best use is made of all of the space. Good value in Norway given that the prices here are about the highest in Europe.

We stayed for 3 nights in this lovely hotel. It is a very nice, character hotel with friendly, helpful staff. The location is excellent, in the University precinct, not far from the train station. We had a sunny corner room in the main building, with a small balcony overlooking the street. There was a blind and curtains to block out the midnight light so that was not a problem.
We did not notice excessive noise from the street. We could hear people in the next room, but this is a very old building so it is understandable. I used the earplugs provided and slept very well.
The breakfast buffet was small but good, constantly restocked with delicious warm pastries. We also took advantage of the tea, coffee and brownies available during the day and evening.
We loved Bergen and would definitely stay here again.

We stayed at Hotel Park Bergen for 5 nights at the end of May 2012. This hotel is a brilliant example of how a limited space can be transformed into a unique, elegant and comfortable place. The reception area, the kitchen, the wooden staircase covered with carpet, the rooms – everything is stylish, with a touch of old times, with ancient-looking (in a good sense) furniture.

Hotels deserve the highest ranking when, apart from generally good atmosphere, attention is paid to details. Hotel Park does. The breakfast is excellent, with a wide choice of herring. The personnel is very welcoming and helpful, moreover they cook brownies on their own, which are freely served to guests in the kitchen every night. Add a nice location 10 min walk from the central station and on the verge of the city center – and you will get almost an ideal place to stay. Almost – because on one morning we were disturbed with a knock on the door without any prior notice – the workers came into our room, took the old sofa out and replaced it with a new one – disappearing as quickly as they appeared!
Still, we think it is definitely the right place to stay in Bergen, and we would really love to come back to this amazing place.

Room Tip: Take room 32 on the 3rd floor - it has the greatest view (but keep in mind there is no elevator)

We booked on the basis that the hotel was ranked third by trip advisor reviewers.  The hotel is located at the top of a hill in the university area of Bergen and a park is located behind the  hotel.

We arrived at the railway station in Bergen and it was very easy to workout where the hotel was located.  The walk to the hotel reminded us of our visit to San Francisco (very hilly), so we would recommend that if you had allot of luggage you may wish to find a more central located hotel.

Our room was on the first floor, the hotel does not have a lift.  The staff helped with our luggage which was very much appreciated, again ask for a room on the ground or the first floor if you bring lots of clothes etc.

The room was well appointed and serviced every day to a high standard.  Our visit was in June and the blackout curtains were reasonably effective.  As the hotel did not have central air-conditioning we had to keep the window open during the night, the down side was this was we could hear all the activity outside the hotel at night.  There were also some issues about the park behind the hotel which was outside the control of the owners of the hotel.

The staff were excellent and very helpful and could not do enough for us during our stay.

The breakfast was excellent and afternoon exceptional and the choice of teas superb.  Would I stay there again?  Yes, but we would pack lighter, visit Bergen at a quieter time and hope the local officials sort out the issues in the park.

My friend and I had a room in the annex and was very happy with the location, quiet (I used ear plugs and had no problem), and charm of the surrounding areas. Bergen could not have been better.

Room Tip: Wonderful breakfast buffet.
