“Intriguing and interesting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2013

We loved wandering around Bryggen the buildings were really quaint and some dated back to the 14th century. Wander down the alleyways to get a real feel of the place. All this is wheelchair accessible if you have an able-bodied partner to give a little help when required.

“Spend the whole morning exploring!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2013

There are markets every morning on Bryggen harbour front - you can try Norwegian delicacies such as whale, moose/reindeer and horse. Lots of fish stalls and plenty of places to eat and drink a meal. The pubs are very expensive but you can splurge and sit outside and people watch. The old wharf buildings are lopsided, charming and full of gorgeous shops and galleries. There is a great Christmas store too, with handmade Norwegian ornaments. You can spend a whole day here, but there are so many other things to see in Bergen ...

“Interesting glimpse back in time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

The Hanseatic museum features two properties that illustrate life during the height of the Hanseatic League's power. The main museum is a house where the League employees lived with no heat or light for fear of fire burning the wooden structure - imagine winter in Norway with very short, cold days as you walk through the exhibits. The other building is a short walk away and houses the dining halls where they went for their meals and for light and heat as it was the only building where fire was allowed.

“Typical coastal city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

Although the Fish market is most visible, go a few blocks beyond the wharf, and see the old buildings being restored. It will give you a sense of how this coastal city evolved with time.
