“Central and ..... ehh yes, central....”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2012

When the location is the only thing you got going, it sure isn't much.

Situated next to the square of Torgalmellingen, with all it's loud music and noise. This no-charm hotel offers budget style service, rooms, bathrooms etc. The shower dep. is so small, a 5 year old would hardly fit.

From the cold welcome of some "dudes" with tobacco lips, more interested in their ongoing conversation, to the good bye, this was a totally utterly forgettable experience.

I offered a couple of remarks about my room, but the response was a mindless "yeah - serious?!"

The ladies attending upon departure were just as indifferent. And who on earth came up with the idea of hanging big lamps in front of the reception desk!!?? If you're over 175 cm you get to stare in to those big huge balloons in stead of seeing the person on the other side of the counter... (maybe just as well...). Just as silly as the enormous bed side lamps, filling up every square cm of the bed side table. Just great. Who did design this stuff, Mickey Mouse?

Actually, come to think of it, the bed was good. And the room was clean.

In fairness, the breakfast at the adjacent Egon's was ok, sort of. Or the coffee was. Lousy service, ran out of juice, no more eggs & bacon, didn't tidy my table for 30 minutes and so on. One "executive" waitress talking loud and making noise, but more interested in drinking coffee than being useful.

Maybe I was grumpy, maybe they had a bad day. I don't know and I really don't care. It's bye bye, don't think we'll meet again. Sorry.

Room Tip: Up and away.

Thon Hotel is as central as it gets. The room was very nicely and newly refurbished. Not the biggest, but room enough. Breakfast is served in the Egon restaurant in the first floor which is a nice new setting for å hotel breakfast, but was fairly normal in content.

Hotel is located in the center of Bergen, but not at the waterfront. The hotel is reasonable, staff is friendly and helpful, rooms are clean and simpel. Parking is a disaster, the hotel has no private parking and parking along the street is not allowed, so you need to park in a nearby public car park, which is rather expensive (as with everything in Norway). Breakfast is served in the restaurant next door and is good. I would not go there for dinner, however. Not the best restaurant in town. For a short stay it is good, for a longer stay I would recommend one of the hotels overlooking the waterfront.

Nice quiet area. Very nice room, remodeled from my last visit several years ago. Outstanding breakfast. They allowed us to check in very early. Statt exceptionally helpful and pleasant. Great location, short walk from train station.

Room Tip: rooms off the street are probably quieter--but we didn't have a problem.

Stayed here with my family for two days. The hotel is very central, and the rooms are pleasantly furnished and clean. As you must expect there are some noise from the city in the night if you leave the window open. The girls in the reception are so smiling and helpsome that it is just a pleasure to stay here. We even had late checkout for both our rooms today! Highly recommended hotel in a city where the hotel quality is rather disappointing!

Room Tip: Ask for one of the higher floors. The most silent ones are against the backyard.

Spent one night here on a business trip.

Rooms are basic but clean, staff pleasant, no temperature controls in the room which gave a choice of being hot or having the window open and suffering from street noise. Price was high for what was delivered but that seems to be par for the course in Norway.

Excellent choice when travelling with children. Spacious family room as beds fold up into the wall, thus allowing for walking space when not sleeping. The bathroom was not as clean as it should have been though. The breakfast option was excellent and the restaurant has a really nice area for chidlren.

Room Tip: Family rooms are the way to go. Avoid at all costs rooms facing the main road. If possible ask for r...
