“In old style but very convenient”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2013

We really liked our stay in Scandic hotel overall, but it didn't start so nice. We had a terrbile service at the check in and the girl asked us to wait 3 hours for the room! Fortunately, when we were already fed up with waiting some other girl, offered us another room. What was good was the location, computers t use and kettles with tea and coffee in the room. The same with hairdryer-available in the bathroom.

We took the Flybus with a Senior Discount from the Airport; it dropped us 2 blocks away---nice walk. Room was spacious with a good view. Nice recliner lounge chair, hardwood floors, great bed, and wonderful large bathroom with excellent shower! Marianne at the reception was very helpful with maps and directions. Breakfast buffet was excellent with lots of variety and pleasant breakfast room. We were told they are in the process of refurbishing the rooms. Our room must have been one of them. It was fresh, pleasant, and quiet. The hotel was within walking distance of the port---just about 5 minutes and a reasonable walk with our luggage. Well located business center and easy to access our e-mail. We would have returned there after our cruise but found the hotel had no vacancies. I would stay there again.

I had to stay in Bergen for one night, made the reservation the same day as ut was not planned. Got a single room for under 1000,00 kr, which isn't bad for downtown Bergen.

The room was spotless and without carpet. I wish more hotels would do away with carpeting as it's really a pain for allergics. But I understand that soundproofing can be problematic. Wasn't a problem here, but noise from the street could be a problem if you like sleeping with your window open. The interior is ready for a rehaul: dated interior and a tired bedspread (I personally would say that no bedspread at all is better than a threadbare one, especially since it's a purely decorative one) aren't very charming, but then again, everything was functionnal and clean.

Location is great, close to everything but not in the middle of the pub-crawl trail.

Would consider staying there again when in Bergen for business. But on a vacation trip with the family I would try to find something with more charm to it.

We've stayed at the Scandic in Copenhagen before and liked it. This hotel is one of two or three in Bergen and is very similar - modern, smart, clean and secure with good facilities. You can't knock it really. We were upgraded to a suite on arrival which was a bit strangely laid out and if we were staying more than two nights, might have moved to a normal room - but can't fault the service and very friendly, helpful staff. Thanks.

Room Tip: If they offer you a suite, check it out first - ours seemed sort of half-finished.

I stayed in this hotel for three nights for a price that was a bargain in Norway. Our room was situated in an adjacent building next to the main building, but there was a connection between them so that you didn't have to go outside to get to the breakfast room or reception. Although the place is a bit dated and worn, its nevertheless very tidy. The service was in my experience mostly professional: reserved and efficient.

Location is great: although the hotel is not situated in the most immeadiate city center, the distances are very short and the nearby streets were full of fashionable little restaurants, packed with local people in the evenings.

Some of the previous reviewers have written that the breakfast buffet is good, but I say its fantastic <3 Me and my colleagues overate every single morning and that kept us going untill the late afternoon. Everything was just so good we just couldn't help ourselves :) There was several varieties of local fish and cheese and lots of fresh greens. The emphasis was on organic, whole foods. You had your usual toast and French jam pastries, but also fullgrain, seed-boosted bread, pancaces with divine blueberry jam and even some sorts of mini smoothies.

But even so, if you're looking for luxury, this will not be your place. Do not be fooled by the hip pics of the lobby. The rest of the hotel is a strange mix of mazelike corridors, broken pianos standing around, worn-out walls and odd interior decorations. The only views are the closed curtains of the other hotel rooms accross the streets.

Also, I have to add that it might not be wise to leave your bags to the luggage room. I had the chance to keep an eye to its open-bolted door for a good half an hour while I was waiting in the lobby for my colleagues to arrive. I knew their belongings were inside and felt watching over was necessary, since the busy lobby personnel certainly did not appear to do so.

BTW, this was the third time I've stayed with Scandic Hotels, though this time was a random accident as the place was chosen for me by conference hosts. I guess its a good sign that the locals think its a place worth putting foreign colleagues into. To me, Scandic chain seems like a middle ground affair. Their hotels offer nothing overly special or fancy, neither is there anything absolutely terrible to scare you off. They are just OK.

Hotel in central location walking distance to main town. Room had no view looked out onto roof of hotel, but was quiet, main street had cobble stones, so front rooms could be noisy. Bathroom very small , shower cubicle tiny. Breakfast was good, meal in the evening was average. Room was very warm, central heating was on, so once that was turned off, room more comfortable.
Over all pleasant stay

We had booked a Queen Bed for two nights and were given the wrong room upon arrival. We were immediately upgraded to the Presidential Suite, with a lovely balcony and view. All of the staff were very attentive and helpful.

Best of all was the breakfast- full on! Lots of smoked salmon, fresh pancakes, granola, herring, etc. A grand assortment and enough to keep you full for the whole day!
