“Excellent location and good sized room”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2013

My friend and I stayed for two nights in this hotel when we visited Bergen. The hotel is excellently located and well within walking distance to the towns' sights and attractions. Check-in was swift and easy and we were given a room on the 4th floor. As we were not expecting a big room, we were surprised that our room and the bathroom were decently sized. Though there is no daily room cleaning or change of sheets / towels included (extra fee payable if required), we were not bothered as our stay was short. Though our room faced the street, it was quiet during the day but we could hear the music and crowd from the club next door when night fell. For this, the hotel provided a couple of sets of ear plugs which did help to drown out the noise as we tried to sleep. Overall, we were satisfied with our stay.

We stayed at Basic Hotel for two nights. The hotel is centrally located in Bergen and everything is at a walking distance. We did not use any public transport for going around in Bergen. The front desk staff was nice and helped us with the directions to attractions and restaurants.

However, the street below the hotel is very noisy with two clubs on the ground floor. The hotel gives you ear plugs, but they are not effective. The noise was there till 4:30 in the morning with people shouting/ cheering on the road and we could not sleep well. I would not stay again at the hotel.

Room Tip: Higher floors could be quieter

We stayed two nights in this little hotel. Served its purpose well. From the train station we walked to the hotel in 10 minutes. Located beside a beautiful cathedral and you can walk to anything you need. It is a very small room. No breakfast or really much amenities included. Bergen is extremely expensive, so having breakfast included could be huge at another hotel. But we saved money on this hotel and really had minimal complaints.

One flaw is there is a nightclub right next door. A very loud night club. We slept through it as we were exhausted so no worries. But for some people it could be a problem.

Bergen is so beautiful that you will not want to be inside for long anyway!

Small rooms with windows that cant be opened. The hotel is right by a nightclub that you can hear. We were four guys that wanted two twin rooms but after we payed and came to the rooms saw that the beds were double beds and not two single beds. The receptionist wouldnt canel the rooms. After a quick check the scandic hotel up the street had bigger rooms with a veiw, included breakfast and great service. The scandic was even cheaper!!!
The Basic hotel is basic and certainty not worth the price!

This hotel really is very basic which is ok but some of the service is lacking.
The rooms were very clean, a good size and freshly decorated but we had to be moved after one night due to our bed collapsing (and we noticed sharp screw ends sticking out of the front of it - not good when you have a toddler). We were moved without an issue though which was a positive, as were the fridges in the rooms. A great idea.
Unfortunately there was not much else to say that was positive, the noise outside the hotel was unbearable, even with the earplugs provided and when leaving the hotel we had to wait over half an hour for someone to come to the hotel to get out bags. This was at 5 on a Sunday afternoon, so hardly out if hours.
My advice: spend a bit more for a quieter and more comfortable stay in Bergen!

Situated in the middle of Bergen, short walk from the train station and everything you want to see.
Nice street close to restaurants/bars - if your country's currency allows you to afford that kind of thing!
Rooms very modern, clean, comfy and nicely furnished.
Free wifi, decent coffee machine in the corridor for 10nok a pop.
Only downside is that it's above a bar/club, so it can be quite noisy at night, it wasnt really that loud though - so it didnt bother us and they do provide ear plugs if it does get too much! May not be the best for a family though.
Staff very friendly and helpful.
Highly recommend!

Room was clean, modern and good, we had upgraded so it was a good size. Shower room facilities very good, bed very comfortable. As we were on fitfth floor we could look over the roof tops and see the funicular railway and mountain side. Yes there was a tea and coffee machine on the second floor but no sign anywhere telling you how much the drinks were. There was a kettle in the room and fridge, but not being that seasoned a traveller yet I forgot to get milk and coffee ( mental cruelty, not having that first cup in the morning!). Ear plugs were provided to block out sound of nightclub and they did work. Good base with friends but definitely not for the romantic.

Room Tip: Try and order a room at the back of the hotel you might get less noise from nightclub
