“Like a hostel with private rooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2012

Location was pretty good- close walking distance to harbor, Bryggen, furnicular, fish market and other tourist attractions. We were placed on the 5th floor but the elevator only went up to the 4th floor so we had to carry our luggage up the stairs. While costs are generally high in Norway, this hotel was really more of a hostel with private rooms and we did not feel like the value matched the cost. No breakfast included.

Room Tip: Avoid 5th floor if you don't want to carry luggage up and down stairs.

This is one of the cheapest hotel rooms in the whole city centre and is good for what you get in comparison to other hotels around. Bergen is expensive, but of course you already know that if your reading this review! This has a kettle, good heating, tv, good wifi and a clean bed and bathroom. My room was quiet and had a nice view out the window. Location is perfect for exploring around the harbour as Bryggen is only just down the street.

Hotel is basic and nice, despite the shabby halls and entry way. Kettle and TV in room. Because of the 'cheap' price though, other people staying there and are party students so it's loud, but not the hotel's fault. Great location.

Fourth floor room facing street for one night. Booked online, no hassle check in, room clean, lots of hot water, free wifi with strong signal. Some street noise as it was a beautiful warm evening and we had windows open. Great location, easy to find on main street, minutes from nice restaurants, bars, fish market.

Room Tip: Avoid 5th floor due no elevator to that level

Convenient and well located hotel. I walked past the entrance twice hoping that I got it wrong. Bad signage near the entrance of a pub. Dirty or unkept entrance which makes you wonder what you are in for. The young staff are pleasant and efficient. From reading other reviews solo travellers get the same room in the attic. To get there you climb a flight of dirty stairs to your room as the lift only goes to the 4th floor. Lots of holes in the room walls? floor was sticky but bathroom was clean. The shower head was cracked and water sprayed everywhere but water pressure was good. There is a TV, fridge and kettle which is a bonus. The window only opens horizontally. I pulled back my linen and there were moths everywhere. I guess you cant predict nature. It was quiet. I dont know what other rooms are like but I would only recommend a one night stay.

Room Tip: Avoid the attic?

My single room in the attic is nothing like the photos - have to come up a dirty staircase to get to the room - as the lift only goes to the 4th floor. Lots of holes in the room walls from where screws used to be - wall paper/paint needs to be refreshed. Nowhere to put clothes. The 'broom cupboard' with a clothes rail which I suspect is supposed to be a wardrobe - needs a damm good clean. However showerroom functional and bed comfy.

Room Tip: Dont book a single room.

The hotel is not as basic as the name suggests, the rooms are modern and clean and the beds are comfortable. There was a fridge, TV and kettle in the room but no tea or coffee so it might be wise to pack some in your case! Just a short walk from the fish market and historic waterfront, the hotel does not have a restaurant but there are plenty of eateries withing walking distance. The staff are friendly and helpful - the reception is not always manned but they are easily contactable by the telephone situated in the reception. All in all, a reasonable place to stay for the money you are paying.

Room Tip: From our room towards the back of the hotel we could hear a bit of noise from time to time such as b...
