Description: Bryggen - the Wharf in Bergen is known worldwide as one of UNESCO's World Heritage Sites, the centre of historical Bergen and a must for any visitor to Bergen. In the middle of Bryggen you will find Bryggen Tracteursted - renovated and reopened - with respect for its historical surroundings and with an ambition to restore its reputation as one of Bergen's top quality restaurants. Bryggen Tracteursted consists of "Schøtstuen" - the Assembly Room, the Firehouse - representing the kitchen and in the back the Stable and the Hayloft. Svensgårdens Schøtstue - anno 1708 - is a listed building and the only one left in its original location. The word Schøtstue comes from "skytningsstova" the place where you shared your food with others.. At Bryggen Tracteursted you will find a modern kitchen inspired by local Bergen and Hanseatic cooking.

“Look for the Huge Wooden Cod”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

This restaurant is in the building that the merchants of the Hanseatic league used to use during the winters in Bergen. It is very quaint (as in sloping floor, low ceilings, and the like) with surprisingly good small plates of food (expensive, of course)--try the herring, for one. It's right in the midst of the old Hanseatic buildings, and worth a try.

“Oustanding food, wonderful location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

Situated in the heart of Bryggen, Bergens old Hanseatic area, sits the Trecteursted restaurant, in a World Heritage site building. The floor is slanted, the toilets are outside, the ceilings are low, but the food, especially the sea food is to die for. Pressed cod with salt and sugar was served up with two wonderful wines and the result was just amazing.

The ambience was wonderful, with dark woods and subdued lighting and it really suits couples and groups alike for that special meal.

For me it is one of the real highlights of Bergen and whilst not cheap, nor should it be. The food is wonderful.

“Lovely old wooden building”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2012

I agree that this serves Norwegian type tapas and that it was expensive -but so was all of Norway. The building was one of the old buildings in Bryggen and had character in spades! We ordered 6 dishes but didn't get exactly what we ordered- no matter it was tasty and we ate it all.
The waitress was friendly and informative and spoke very very good English. She told us a lot about life in Bergen( this was the day we arrived)
I'd return here.

“Charming Old World Atmosphere, Excellent Norwegian Cuisine!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 22, 2012

During my business trip to Bergen, one of my business partners took my team and I to Bryggen Tractursted. Bryggen Tractursted was the culinary highlight of our trip! The service was outstanding. Furthermore, the food was exceptional in presentation, quality, and flavor.

Bryggen Tractursted can be found in the Bryggen section of Bergen; the old Hanseatic section of Norway. This area was built by German traders just after 1700. The buildings are long, multi-story wood structures. Bryggen Tractursted is housed in the center of the Bryggen. The exterior, as well as interior, exude Old World charm. We dined on the first floor. The rustic building, candle light, and slated floors really made for a memorable dining experience.

I enjoyed the smoked whale appetizer, and the main course: reindeer with vegetables, lingonberries, and game sauce. Both were outstanding; one of the best meals I have ever had. Unfortunately, the food was plenty and I could not bear to explore the dessert menu.

Bryggen Tractursted has an excellent list of wines, beers, and spirits. Aquavit is the national spirit of Norway... it is certainly worth enjoying.

I look forward to future trips to Norway, and many future dining experiences at Bryggen Tractursted.

“Mixed in many ways”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2012 via mobile

A mixed experience: excellent reindeer dish - it couldn't be bettered - but expensive even for Norway. But it was superb. Dessert was a below average apple tart costing nok 115. Waitress was not bothered when I replied to her enquiry that it was poor. My wife had a tiny plate of cheese, but they did provide bread when asked (and a knife).

We didn't try the Norwegian tapas, but they looked small.

Atmosphere was cosy and it qas an jnteresting building and we did enjoy ourselves, but would I go back? Probably not.
