“luxury hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2014

Top rated luxury hotel with good location. Hotel shuttle bus drop right across the street and return bus shuttle to airport are few minutes walk away. The buffet breakfast is the best in Norway and one does not need lunch after that. The locale is within walking distance to all the attractions in Trondheim. We will definitely go back if we visit Trondheim again!

Room Tip: we have a corner room facing the river, beautiful view and quiet!

Very good hotel as most of the hotels in Norway and in Trondheim. The breakfast of this hotel is outstanding, Unique and the best I have ever had in EU! Various servings of cold and warm fish, fresh fruit and great smoothies and service.
Nice rooms, Nice hotel. I would definitly recommand this hotel, although prices can be on the high side.

Booked this hotel for one night between Christmas and New Year. Intended to dine at their restaurant which I heard was good. To my surprise, the restaurant was closed the whole period of Christmas to early January.
The staff in the reception was friendly. Room was clean but dissapointingly small, given that I had booked a superior room. The window was very small. Together, the room was not worth the extra price.
The biggest disappointment was the breakfast. This hotel has won many prizes for having Norway's best breakfast. Well, I have had better breakfasts in other hotels in Norway. For example, we asked a waitress for milk in our coffee. She just sent us to the juice and milk station, where we had to pour milk into a glass, than take the glass to our table, than pour the milk from the glass into the coffe cup. There were no bread rolls and no croissants (!). They had a barista (or at least he looked like one) where we ordered plain coffee, but he sent us away away because plain coffee was served by the ordinary waiters, from large cans that stood on stoves. No, you won't get fresh brewed black coffee.
All in all, this hotel is not more than average. Given this, it is overpriced.

The breakfast was spectacular, of course - white tablecloth, freshly pressed orange juice; coffee brewed constantly. There were cooks all over the place, flipping omelets and producing delicate yoghurts.

The rooms were delicate, quiet (!!) - oddly enough, no noise from the streets (perhaps because my room was overlooking a canal), and clean. Minibar was always stacked, personnel was both discreet and ubiquitous (and that is quite a combination, isn't it).

The location was, for my purpose, perfect - in the middle between the railway station and the government archives where I was studying, and within walking distance of the city center.

The televison was not all that intuitive, but after a few minutes I got the hold of it...this was a pleasant stay. One drawback however - I gained four pounds in three days...

It is no mistake that this hotel regularly wins prizes for best breakfast. It is simply incredible. The rooms are small by international standards, but nice and clean, with a quite nice color scheme. The service is excellent - the personnel really tries to assist. A small minus is that there is no early breakfast if you have an early flight. However, when I asked about this, the nice lady in the reception immediately produced some croissants and coffee for me to have while waiting for the taxi.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a view over the river

This is a cheap hotel. Some rooms are quite big, some are rather small. Breakfast is OK, but you might have to wait for a table. It's very clean and modern. No aircondition means that it might be too hot to sleep.

While the hotel itself can stand on its own as a great place to stay (clean, modern, comfortable, good location), the thing that sets this hotel apart from other hotels are the breakfasts.
Out-of-this-world! Yes, I read the reviews before arriving and thought that people exaggerate a bit when their bellies are full. Rest assured that every good review written about the breakfasts at Rica Nidelven are 100% true. The food was outstanding - the choice, the presentation, the attention to detail, the taste...
I give it my vote as Norway's Best Breakfast any day.

Room Tip: Ask for the old wing if you don't want to walk far from the reception, bar and restaurant area.
