Description: One of the finest gourmet restaurants in Oslo, located in a 17th-century building in the old city centre. The ceiling has some of the finest stucco work in Northern Europe. The chef, Bent Stiansen, won the prestigious chef championship Bocuse d'Or in 1993. Order from the à la carte menu or try the six-course menu of the day. The menu is composed of the best ingredients available at the time Stiansen uses high-quality Norwegian ingredients, coloured by European tradition. Chambre separée for 8-24 persons. In the basement you find the more informal Statholderens Krostue, which is open for both lunch and dinner.

“Excellent cuisine, but missed the "highnote"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2013

You will get an excellent meal. That said I was a tad dissappointed, mainly because the stiff prices gave me equally high expectations. Quality and presentation was superb, but the taste was even, no "cresendo". One might argue that it was safe, though everything on each plate was thought through. We had the chef's menu & wine package, a full six courses. Our reason for chosing the wine package is that this usually means a chance to explore a variety of wines. One of them was downright dissappointing, and I wonder how much that cost. Service was good, but knowledge of wines and pairing (and spilling it!) was not what we expected at a Michelin-starred restaurant.

Went for our wedding anniversary. Very proper and fancy, all the food is well prepared, and you get all the attention and service expected on this level. Still not quite worth the money in my opinion.

“No discussion: Simply the Best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2013

Statholdergaarden is rated as Oslo's top restaurant on Tripadvisor. It has maintained a Michelin star for 15 years. Chef Stiansen won Bocuse d'Or in 1993. Conclusion? The best restaurant in Oslo, non disputable. And finally, after celebrating our anniversary here last week, we can confirm this from personal experience!

The service is friendly, professional and attentive. The decor is elegant and thoughtful, with really comfortable seating, soft acoustics and lovely detailing. During our visit the guests were families with charmingly well-behaved children, groups of old friends, some insiders from the restaurant business, birthday parties and couples 35+. The atmosphere was really nice, friendly and relaxed.

AND THE FOOD! Fabulous, consistent, expertly made, delicious, generous, classic, yet modern. Only the best seasonal ingredients. We had the set six course menu, with the recommended wine, as neither of us felt remotely qualified to second-guess the chef or the sommelier. The value for money of the set menu is excellent. With amuse bouche and other complimentary dishes, we were thoroughly seduced through ten courses. Everything cooked to perfection with attention to detail, skill and heart. Only an accomplished kitchen staff can manage to get every single element on a plate to stand out. The stars shone of course: the scallops, the crayfish, the veal were just perfect. But who else gets spinach, I mean SPINACH!, to taste and feel like elegant savoury velvet? Or marinated bits of celery to feel like small presents of jewelry?

I cannot wait to return to Staholdergaarden!

“Excellent food, nice atmosphere, great service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2013

We had a table for two. All of the staff where very nice and proffesional from beginning to the end. We choosed a 6 course dinner with a "wine package"- excellent wine to the best dinner ever. We got four different very tasteful appetizer before we startet with the 6 dishes. We also had a apertif with a drop of bourbon and a drop of Tia Maria, and Cava, with a slice of orange in the glass- smells like heaven.
The dinner was so tasteful from beginning to end. It is worth every penny. It is expencive, but you get the very best!

“Expensive - but worth it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2013

As a gift for my birthday, I was treated to a 5 course food and wine menu at the Statholdergaarden restaurant. It was a great evening, there is quite a luxury feeling to a visit here. The food was superb, the fish soup was the best I have ever tasted. The wine went very well (after my taste) with the courses, and the waiters are polite and present...
