“Choose only for price if cleanliness is NOT important.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2012

Nice: staff at desk in morning, delightful!
Location pretty good and quiet
Not nice: bathrooms are like a boys dorm or worse. Gross is an understatement.
Breakfast is minimal. Bus routes ok.
Choose only for price, but don't expect much besides a bed. Three night stay and they finally cleaned this morning. Pretty popular despite reviews.

I had to cancel part of my trip to Norway so I asked (2 weeks ahead) if I could cancel and receive my money back for the three nights I booked. The policy on their website said no cancellations, but I figured I'd email to check anyway. The person who responded was very polite and said it wouldn't be a problem, of course they would refund me. Very nice! Hopefully I'll stay there in the future sometime.

Expectations were high: charming, central located and familial. Well connected to public transport and a charming area around, but without beeing a home. Rarely stuffed check-in desk, the booking process had failed twice and I´ve never seen the host. The entrance door is always unlocked, despite they give you the feeling of safety by handing over a key code. Broken things seems to never be repaired. Waffles during afternoon hours had been a fairy tale for over 3 years. Cleaning is another story... Breakfest is as simple you ever may imagine- cereals, some fruits, softdrinks. Lucky me- I took the better side and mattress of the bed and always using ear plugs I slept well without hearing the constant bubbling of the heater. But once a bouquet of roses was served and hot water was never finished...

This is the cheapest I could find in Oslo with ok quality. Only common toilet. We've stayed there 2x. (Oct 2011, March 2012). Checking in late is based on trust. As you know Norway is a country where most people trust anybody. So you pretty much check in by yourself. There was nobody at the reception to give you key if you check in after their office hours.
You will just find a note at the office's closed door. Your name, your room number and some info you may need to know. They made mistake last time. I booked a 3-bed room and was given a 2-bed room. But it was not a problem, they were just a phone call away. So it was easily corrected. We were told to take another room. They will tell you where the room key is.
Don't expect a nice toilet. There is one in each floor. So wake up early if you want to be the first. Also, on the higher floor of this hostel, there was like a little flood on the floor. My family had to use another toilet on the lower floors. But it was inconvenient for me to go to lower floors every time I needed to use the toilet..... so I did some cleaning myself. But there was a leak! so, the following day when I woke up, water was all over again.
They have free cereal breakfast. All day all night free coffee and tea.
I would come back to this hotel because it's the cheapest I could find in Oslo and in a very good central location.
price I paid for 3 single beds in a room- cost around US $120/night.
price for 2-beds in a room (Oct 2011)- around US $95/night

Just unbelievable! It was a nightmare of it's own.
The rooms have a minimal standard without any charm and comfort. The beds were dirty. Even the 'fresh' linen had some pubic hairs and undifine stains. One of the beds were broken and could not be used. There only one bathroom for each floor. The bathroom was dirty too. There had been mould and leaking pipes. The heating system was gugling.
Breakfast was included, but don't ask. Cold coffee and some serials. Even a snack on a gasstation would have been better...
After all I have to say. Residence Kristenelund is not worth the money.

Room Tip: no room suggestion, please go for another place

I was there in the end of January, 2011. It is a good hotel! The reception works only till midday, but, if You are late, the keys will be left for You. The interior is very pleasant! The rooms are cozy. Yes, there can be not perfect furniture, but it is not a problem. For this price in Oslo it is a best place to stay at! It will take You just 10 minutes by bus or tram to get to the city center.

This price was less than any else I could find and I was pleasantly surprised with it. The house was beautiful, the rooms were clean, the staff was nice. We had no problems while we were there. Its not a five star hotel but it's not a hostel either. Its a good in between and perfect for a traveler who Just needs a place to crash.
