“Just a statue? Not Really!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2013

I think there are only about a dozen American Presidents with statues in other countries. It was erected by people who were grateful for FDR's strong defense of Norwegian character after a misinformed American journalist smeared the Norwegian people in WWII. FDR's speech was critical in reversing the adverse opinions Americans had developed from the "journalist's" article. How many politicians are trusted by Americans enough to change the mind of a nation with one speech? How many Presidents are honored in other countries at all, much less for one speech? I thought this was pretty cool, and the statue's placement, looking down the Radhusplassen to the Nobel Peace Center id especially appropriate.
