“Good location but very small rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2013

We booked this hotel before it's open (in July 2013) so we enjoyed a lower price at ~ EUR 80 per night without breakfast. We expected a small room but it was MUCH SMALLER than expected (the photos here did not give an accurate impression on the size). We can barely move around.

The location is very great. Staff is helpful and friendly.

For the price I've paid, I'd rate it "very good". However if it's around EUR 100 as mentioned by some fellow reviewers then it'd be

New hotel, well located, friendly staff - however, for this type of hotel by far too expensive.
We paid close to EUR 100 which is only little below the better located Rica Hotel (4stars) charging EUR 115 only.
Even for Oslo where you find much better equipped hotels at almost the same price.

Room Tip: You should avoi this hotel unless they reduce the price per room! EUR 60 might be appropriate!

First: the address that TripAdvisor has is wrong, it is Sankt Olavs gate 26, not Olav Vs gate 26.
This very new hotel (opened in July) has a great location, near the Nationaltheatret stop of the underground and the airport train. We were at the hotel about an hour after the plane had landed. It has probably some of the lowest prices in Oslo, but that is because it is a strict no-nonsense place: no check-in before 3pm (but you can leave your luggage), the rooms are not one square centimeter larger than absolutely necessary, and the breakfast is quite basic (but see below). But the bed was good, there is free WiFi (that works!), and the staff is extremely nice (and do not patronize Scandinavian customers by switching into English when there is a Norwegian word you don't get the first time).
The chair in the room is very heavy and since you have to move it around quite a bit (beacuse the room is small) it would be better if you didn't have to lift it for that.
Breakfast is very nice and plenty with both cereal, jam, ham and cheese and savory options (liver paté, salmon), but only scrambled eggs and baked beans as warm options (no bacon, no sausages). It that is what keeps the price down, fine by me. They should drop the soft boiled eggs (not even more expensive hotels are good at that) - they were both hard and cold. And the choice of tea bags was limited to say the least - only Earl Grey and Forest Berries. I stuck to the very good orange juice instead. (Why not just have some decent English Breakfast Tea?)
None of this will keep me from staying there the next time, too. Definitely a good choice.

Smarthotel in Oslo just opened this year in July. Reasonable price in Norway -about $100/ night single room. Breakfast bar not included but can buy it for 80 NOK ,good price for the variety of cold cut, cheese, cereal, yogurt, eggs, potatoes, breads, fruit, juices,coffee...
Location is prime, subway and train station 5 min.walk at Nationaltheatre station ,Royal Palace ,
Karl Johan Gate .
The room is small with private bathroom I am 5'4" tall so the compact space was fine for me:) .Unique design ,fold down table with chair , hangers on the wall even give you closet place . The bed is very comfortable with a huge soft pillow . Loved it , love the place all together. Staff is helpfull ,24/7 .

Room Tip: Easy reservation on - line . Extra curtain for darkness .It was 8 C at night had to turn on the heat...

I spent 5 days at this hotel in a single room.
Hotel is located near the royal palace, that is in the center of the town, near lots of museums.
Single room is quite small but all was completely new, with a very good design and very comfortable.
Price for a night was 69 euro, what is very low for Norway!
You can buy breakfast but only with credit card. Hotel do not use at all cash money.
Staff was very young and very pleasant.

When I checked in smarthotel in Oslo, traveling with a friend, we asked the reception if we could add an extra bed to the room. She laughed, then smiled (nicely) and said I'm sorry to tell you that the rooms are 8sq mt. There is no way you can add a bed, because it simply would never fit. How true was that!! That room could barely fit 2 people and a bed. Forget about closets -just hang your staff on the wall -if you can! (the provide you with 2 hangers).
Other than that, location is great, hotel is clean, service is kind and it's modern and everything looks new. It's just that you get what you pay for in Norway... what an expensive country.

We stayed here for 2 nights and the customer service was excellent and couldn't be faulted! The staff were always willing to help and were very friendly. There was free wifi throughout the hotel which was a bonus. The only downside was the size of the actual room and the bathroom. One side of the double bed was up against the wall so you had to climb over the other person and the bathroom was very small. It was fine for a couple of nights and if you're literally just sleeping in the room. But for a longer stay it may be a little to claustrophobic.
