“Quiet in the forest, still close to Oslo”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2013

Located in the "mountains" surrounding Oslo and only twenty minutes away, this is a place to see the real nature of south eastern Norway without having to leave Oslo. Very good food and an excellent wine list at the restaurant, modern rooms with the views as if you stayed in a private Norwegian cabin. Twenty minutes or so from downtown Oslo by car.

A beautiful hotel and location on the mountain behind Oslo. Not easy to reach without ones own car and taxis are very expensive as most things are here in Norway. Very helpful and friendly staff. Lovely pool with views over mountains and forest. Excellent restaurant and menu largely organic and local but heavily meat and fish based.

What a wonderful place! The scenery is lovely with an amazing view. Old, yet modern, sleek yet quaint and very original. We stayed in the newly decorated annex and this is definitely a hotel room I'll remember. The design was unique yet very functional with lots of nice details. Our room had a nice balcony overlooking the valley. The bed was very comfortable, there was lots of storage in the room (great if you're staying a few days) and the bathroom was beautiful with lush toiletries from L'Occitane. There were fluffy robes as well.

We had a four course dinner in the evening and everything was delicious and very well presented.

Breakfast was delicious with an ecofriendly focus, something I really appreciate.

A great stay, I definitely recommend this place!

Stayed for a night just to get out of the city. The hotel is beatifully situated in the forrest just north of Oslo (30-40 min by train, 20 min by car). They have a very good kitchen and an excellent vine cellar (I recommend selecting one of their daily menus with corresponding vine package, you won't regret it). The hotel itself and the rooms are also very nice, and the staff is very friendly and helpful.

This is a good place to combine nature views and good food. Mainly a conference place, I'm sure that if you don't mind the distance from both tube station and central Oslo, it's a great place.

My room was on ground floor, dark and viewing the parking lot. Clean and tidy, but the toiletries was far too heavily perfumed.

The food was excellent, also here lunch being the best meal.

But at dinner, "general public" guests had to dine in the same room as 60 conference participants. They didn't look like they got what they paid for...

Room Tip: First floor, facing the valley.

Although Lyseby is run by a special organization, it is open for the general public. It is placed in the foresty hillside above Oslo, it is quiet, has a very good kicthen and rooms that include such necessities for me as a desk for working. The staff is helpful, competent and friendly and I wnjoy coming there.

Room Tip: The doubles in the old, main building are markedly larger than the singles

If you're headed to Oslo, Lysebu is the place to stay. It's a 30min train ride or they have free parking if you're with a car.
The walk from the train would be tough with more than a backpack. This place is amazing because you're near Holmenkollen on the edge of the woods high above the city, yet still on the subway "T-Bane" line.
The breakfast was especially good.
I give the service 5 stars, but keep in mind that's for Norway. Hospitality isn't a thing here.
