The main reason for visiting this region would definitely be that of visiting the many museums that are clustered in the area. The ferry drops you metres away from the Kon-tiki and Fram museums: these two are barely a hundred metres from each other. Bus 30 from in front of the kon- tiki takes you to the viking museum and also the folk museum (which are near to each other). Otherwise it's a good fifteen minute walk and, surprisingly, there are almost no signposts to indicate the way. The Holocaust centre (nothing special!) is even more difficult to find and again there are no signposts to show you the way. A map of the area is a good thing to take with you!
