“Great stay, average room.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2013

We stayed for one night with our son August 7th. The receptionist was very nice and let us check in at 10am! The problem is there is no AC and to be able to sleep you had to open the windows. Well that would work if the city wasn't so loud. We did not sleep well at all. Plus is that it is in the middle of the city so you can walk to everything.
Breakfast was good and the room was a good size.

Room Tip: Gave away from the street if you stay in the summer time.

i stayed in august for 2 night on b. trip
first i will say that the service of the receptionists were perfect and they try to do the best with a smile.
but still this hotel have rooms that you see only in 2 stars hotel (room 336).
all the rooms don’t have safes and no air-condition.
the single rooms are very small.
the locations of the hotel is perfect but its feel like for the owner is enough.
breakfast was good.
although the perfect service i won’t come again.

Beautiful hotel, great location, very friendly staff, excellent breakfast, not expensive (through Fjord-Pass paid 1200 NOK for 1 night on June 29 for 3 adults in a suite), spacious room - definitely good value. Hotel is very close to a metro station and right in the center of Oslo, close to everything, and is in the pedestrian mall (Karl Johans Gate). Rooms can be a little noisy on weekends. No parking cloeseby, but hotel guests get a 25% discount in an underground parking lot about 400 meters away.

Room Tip: some of the rooms may be noisy at night because of a nearby establishment. The noise didn't both...

Spent all of February 2013 in Norway beginning and ending at The Best Western Karl John Hotel in Oslo. There are no bargains in Norway but the cost of a hotel room is a lot less shocking than the cost of everything else. The Karl Johan is located right in the middle of Oslo's center on the main street near just about everything. The building is a beautifully maintained example of 19th century luxury living. The rooms were bright and clean and warm, some had lovely views of the park and ice skating rink across the street, the corner rooms overlooked the parliament buildings. The staff was exceptionally friendly and competent. As in most of Norway, the included breakfast was excellent every day. Restaurants, shopping, the National Theater, the tourist information center, museums, and public transportation were all within a few blocks. In summer, ask for an inside room to avoid the noise from the nearby bars. I would definitely return to this hotel.

We spend 4 days in Oslo and with our base in this hotel. You are right in the center and with a number of restaurants and sights within walking distance. The metro and the trolley bus is just around the corner.

Enjoyed the position/ closeness to everything but the hotel was hot. Our room had windows that hardly opened at all and faced the court yard and was very hot. Rooms are generous and clean. reception is friendly. very good location for seeing the city which was lovely. really enjoyed Oslo

Room Tip: rooms over the court yard are very hot

I registered at the Karl Johan BW Hotell in Oslo Norway on July 27th.
The hotel is centrally located in a magnificent building and well maintained.

This hotel turned however into a nighttime nightmare.

In fact the nearby central place was the location of music and noise until 3 AM. In addition the temperature was very high and we could not keep the windows open because of the noise. The windows themselves were poorly fitted to insulate from noise.

The result was a sleepless night. In the US the manager would have deeply discounted such a room or even refunded it fully. Nothing similar happened, only general excuses and no substancewere offered.

To add insult to damage, we could not even have breakfast as the breakfast room opened on Sunday only at 8 AM. We were told that we should have reserved a breakfast bag the day before within 11AM (we registered at the hotel at 3PM).

You should not sell rooms in this area if you cannot equip them with air conditioning and state of the art (or more) noise insulation.

I was appalled to realize that in Norway (a civilized country I thought) people can keep such a noise in the center of the town until 3 AM.

Room Tip: Hotel to be AVOIDED at ALL COSTS !!! ALL ROOMS face the central plaza
