“Great location and good service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2011

The hotel is greatly located, and the service was very good. We booked a superiour room which included one sleeping room and a small living room which was seperated from sleeping room with sliding doors. The room also had a large balcony with a partly view to Aker Brygge. One disadvantage was that there was no air condition in the room. It was also clear that the hotel is one of the oldest in Norway, but it was very clean. Still some renovation could be done. Breakfast room is wonderful and the choice of food excellent. We would definetively come back.

Room Tip: Book a superiour room. We booked this through hotels.com

Helpfulness and service superb, as it should be with a hotel of this standard, but even so superb. Some rooms and mine included very very tiny though, and my bathroom was so small and the space so limited that I had no room to keep my toiletries in the actual bathroom but had to balance them on the top of the trouser press thing! My colleague had no real bedside surfaces apart from a shelf which was sloped and therefore useless, whereas this was actually ingeniously designed in my room! But overall feeling of bathroom/room space that the hotel is going for maximum number of rooms without giving any real space, - "pack 'em and take the money" sort of vibe. I would ahve liked a little cleaner bathroom and some soap too. Finally, drilling and hammering all day for renovation is really, really unacceptable, - and when I very politely asked about this was told there was nothing that could be done.

Room Tip: I would check your room before checking in unless it's a suite

We stayed here for a couple of nights in June. Would not stay again. It was packed with group tours who arrived by the multiple-bus load, lines 20 people deep at reception, luggage piled up high in the lobby. Our two rooms were shabby and not worth anywhere near the ridiculously high prices we were compelled to pay for them. Old carpet, bathrooms which kept the hairs of previous guests through two "cleanings" by the housekeeping staffs, lumpy beds & pillows... Ick. Highly variable customer service standards on the part of the staff. We found the reception staff to be very helpful (when you could finally beat your way through to them) but the bar/cafe staff outright rude.
The place must get so much guaranteed business from the group tours that they don't feel the need to try very hard.
Pluses: great location. we were able to check into our rooms early coming off an international flight from the US, which made up for a lot. Apparently some rooms have been renovated (not sure if they come with better cleaning staff though!)
But I'd still head elsewhere.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a renovated room

We stayed in this hotel for a weekend. The location is very central, close to the restaurants and movietheatres, which is nice. The only logical down-side of that is that you do get to hear people on the streets coming and going. Not al problem for us but something to take into account when you're thinking of staying there.
During our stay we ordered roomservice ones and the food was great. Really nice service and good quality. The rooms ain't very big (especially the bathroom is kind of small) but we would stay here again on a next trip to Oslo.

- Great location, in the middle of the town, close to everything
- Reception staff were friendly, and helpful
- Room is very small but has nice and modern furniture

Room Tip: Back street rooms are noisy at night, specially on weekends

Fantastic hotel, only downside is there is a great difference in the standards of bedrooms, we had been in 2 rooms after check in that we found unsatisfactory for the standard of the hotel, but on moving to the 3rd WOW it was fantastic and if they continue to refurbish every room to that standard then this place will be the simply the best.

Loved the Theatercafeen and the Eik Annen Etage was a fantastic place to sit and drink, but like everything in Oslo very expensive.

Breakfast fantastic with very friendly staff couldnt do enough for us. Would recommend this place to anyone.
