“Loved this Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2011

Hotel located next to train station from airport and easy walking distance to all the sites around the city. Very good breakfast included. The bed was so comfortable we wanted to bring it home! Quiet room. Coffee/tea facilities.

Most convenient place to stay in Oslo when arriving from the airport by the express train: literally only steps away. Courteous, helpful staff, clean rooms, albeit a bit small. Very accommodating on our return to Oslo from Bergen when we arrived at 1 a.m. after a significant delay before our 5 a.m. departure. Substantial and filling traditional Norwegian buffet breakfast. Will stay there again on our next trip to Oslo.

Stayed at the hotel during a work event. The hotel building looks new and modern on the outside but it's a little more dated and worn once you're inside. The name of the hotel "Thon Hotel Opera" is reflected in the decorating with heavy decor and opera items (costumes and stuff). The reason is that the new operabuilding is right outside the door of the hotel.
My room was nice and the bed was comfy, but it didn't feel fresh and modern. There were some chipped tiles etc. in the bathroom and the tv was old-style. I stayed at the ninth floor and had a view towards the busy parking lot in front of the Central station.
If you need or want to be in the heart of downtown Oslo, this hotel is perfect. Right by the Central station (train, airport express train) and close to the Bus Terminal. Short distance to shops (a mall, Byporten shopping centre, is almost integrated with the the hotel and Central station) , tourist attractions and restaurants. The area itself is a little dodgy though, unfortunately drug addicts gather around. It's a little bit uncomfortable at night, but I'd say it's still a pretty safe area.
The conference facilities were not that great, the rooms were small and hot. There was no fresh fruit, the bathrooms are unisex etc.
What I liked the most about my stay was the lovely lunch buffet. The breakfast was good as well, but lunch was excellent. Lots to choose from and very tasty! Service is excellent as well!
Might stay here again.

The hotel is literally one step from the train station going to the airport which is important because the airport is far from the city and getting by taxi is expensive! Also it has a great view to the fiord and the new Opera house, it is very close to the city center.

Usual level of fit out for an international type of hotel. Room a bit small - think London size. Our room had a view of the elevator shaft which was disappointing. Room was quiet, well appointed. Next to the central station, easy walk to the city.

Room Tip: Ask for a harbour view...

The hotel is located just south of the main railway station in Oslo, easily walkable from the trains. The opera is just south of the hotel. Views are very good from the upper floors, and will improve as the roads are moved underground.

The lobby is very spacious and welcoming. Staff was friendly and checked me in in an efficient manner.

I got a west-facing single room on the 9th level. The room was as small as it could be. It had a bed, a desk, a TV, a kettle, two chairs, a minibar and a small table. There was also a trouser press.

The bathroom had a small sink, a toilet and a shower. It lasted very long before the shower got warm water.

Breakfast was very good.

I'll be happy to come back, especially if I can get the same low rate (NOK 550/night).

The Thon Opera is a good hotel. What is especially good is breakfast. But for the price it is just below expectations. Go to the Thon Panorama instead.
The rest you can probably read in others' reviews.
