Upon arrival at the hotel there was a line at check-in, about 8 rooms of guests long. Only 2 clerks were available and one was apparently a trainee. She was constantly consulting with the other clerk. It took almost 20 minutes before we could check-in, which was unacceptable. The trainee clerk should have had someone with her, with a line that long. We checked in with the veteran, yet had to request a second key. It should have been automatically provided.
I'm a Club Carlson member and we were upgraded to the Club floor. If that was an upgrade, as this hotel clearly needs an immediate refurbishment. The room, my wife commented upon entering, was "worn." The room was clean, and unlike the room our friends had, our air conditioning worked. Their air conditioner didn't, and they had to change rooms. We heard from many others we met that the AC in their room didn't work, or barely worked. The refrigerator in our room barely worked, but it wasn't important enough for us to change rooms for that. The included WIFI Internet connection was solid and fast.
We had to call housekeeping to get enough towels. They brought them quickly, but the next day we had to ask again. That shouldn't have been necessary.
The location of the hotel was excellent. It's within easy walking distance of the majority of major sights, and the harbor, where you can get a boat ride to the Viking Museum, Kon-Tiki Museum, Fram Museum, etc. There are lots of very good restaurants within walking distance, and I'd recommend trying some at the harbor. The view from our room on the top floor was wonderful.
Breakfast was included for us and the breakfast buffet is huge. There's plenty to choose from and the fresh fruit and salmon was good. Some of the cooked items left a lot to be desired. For example, I have no idea if the eggs were reconstituted from powdered eggs or not, but they sure tasted that way, were grainy to my palette, and were very much undercooked. The bacon was extremely fatty and undercooked as well.
By the time I return to Oslo, if the hotel renovates and refurbishes the rooms I might return, but I suspect I'll try another hotel instead.
