My family left Norway in the 1860s but my grandfather who was a lifelong member of Sons of Norway always spoke proudly of the resistance of Norwegians when Hitler occupied Norway. I waited for the museum to open one morning and I wasn't disappointed. I learned that it was even more impressive than the stories my grandpa told me (some of which are more like urban legends). He would have loved this museum. I was particularly struck by the role the Norwegian merchant marine played in the Allied effort. The exhibits have plenty of english translations and pictures speak volumes. The museum is part of the fortress and an easy walk from where cruise ships dock and ferry land.
